Less than 2 years old; fan still runs, but no water being removed. Pan is totally dry. Ideas? Anything I can fix on my own?

The compressor relay's purpose is to start the compressor. A faulty relay can result in the compressor failing to cycle on. The relay is accessed from the lower rear of the dehumidifier. The relay is located in the terminal box which is located at the side of the compressor.

Before testing a compressor relay, unplug the dehumidifier to avoid an electrical shock hazard. Also, if the compressor uses a capacitor, it must be discharged first to avoid the risk of electrical shock.

The compressor relay can be accessed by removing the terminal cover box. The cover is held on by tension or with a retaining clip.

I have H. Bay model HB40F dehumidifier. It does not seem to ever actually start the compressor. There is a plastic box on the side of the compressor that contains a couple of coily looking things. It...

It is probably the start device(the coil looking things), as long as you don't hear the compressor humming. A loud hum is a lock compressor and the cost would be far greater than a new unit.

Compressor won't kick on

This usually means that the capacitor is bad and needs to be replaced, it is a small round device that is either near the compressor or in the control panel area, on the side of it, it will tell you the "MFD" rating and the voltage, and that is the two numbers that you need to match. Be carefull, with the old capacitor, if it is shorted it can hold a electrical charge, even with no power to it, and can zap you, not fun :)
If this has been helpful, please rate the new guy :)
Contact me if I can help you any more.

Fan runs ,coils are room temp. should they be hot or cold , no water is collecting in bottom

A dehumidifier is basically an air conditioner, so some coils should feel hot, the others should feel cold.

If no water is collecting, then the unit's compressor is not starting. Typically you have four possible failures causing this: the switch/wiring for the compressor has an open circuit, the motor-start capacitor for the compressor has failed, the compressor itself has failed, or all the refrigerant has leaked out.

If there is evidence that it is 'trying to start', but then clicking repeatedly, this can be a symptom that the refrigerant has leaked out, as some devices have a pressure switch to prevent compressor damage.

Also, a failed start-capacitor can also cause the click-click noise if the device has a current limiter switch on the compressor.

So the short answer is, it's broken :)

Fan fixed but evaporator solenoid keeps activating at times

the purpose of the valve is to de-ice the evaporator and the valve is turned on by a timer usually. in normal operation, the evaporator builds up with ice (that is how water is extracted). when the valve operates, to put it simply, the hot gas is routed to the evaporator and hence melts the ice off

My dehumidifier will not turn on

Hi,
There are many reasons for a dehumidifier2_bing.gif to not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier2_bing.gif.

Dehumidifier is running but no water is in bucket

Lifeguard, there are generally no user accessible safety items in dehumidifiers. You are likely describing the start relay which is used to 'boost' the compressor on starting. Jumping it will not help you. It sounds like the compressor is defective. Economically, there is no justification for servicing these units unless they require refrigerant gas or if the fan motor has seized, something you can readily determine. If you don't hear the compressor hum when it should, there is no service procedure available for these sealed units.

Compressor turn on briefly, no water collected

Sounds like the low pressure cutout switch is stopping your compressor running, especially if the "6 seconds" you mention are exactly the same length. Not enough refrigerant would be the usual cause, but the reason for the refrigerant loss is harder to tie down - possibly a seal or a loose valve seat or even a pinhole in a copper tube. Best solution now would be to take it to a refrigerator mechanic to top it up and check for leaks - get a quote first to check - 'fridge gas is getting costly. Other possible solution is that the low pressure switch itself is faulty, relatively inexpensive to replace (but unfortunately you will need at least a partial gas recharge on most types of system after) - your fridge gas guy will be able to check very easily if there is adequate gas in the system, and should check this low pressure switch if there is not.
