The orifice that comes with the unit has a starter hole only needs to be drilled out, in the instructions is a chart for altitude de-rating.

On the front of the burner where the gas comes out. If u pull the gas distributed tube out you will see the same " brass threaded cap", remove old one and install new one from kit.

Follow the gas line. It will go through a gas valve then to a burner manifold. On the manifold you will see identical brass orifices. Remove and replace.

I AM WORKING ON A COZY W501E WALL FURNACE AND CANT GET THE PILOT TO STAY LIT. i HAVE CHANGED THE GAS VALVE, THERMOCOUPLE,AND THE SENSOR FOR THE HIGH LIMIT. THE PILOT WONT STAY LIT.

Pretty much the only thing that will do that is the thermocouple not generating enough voltage for the valve to say it's OK.
Usually you need to hold the button for pilot lighting for 60 seconds. You can use a meter to check that it's generating enough power. The thermocouple has to be in the pilot flame properly.

Safety relief valves

Need to know what pressure steam you are running, and what your water feed pressure is & temperature. If you are using a deaerator with pumps to supply feed pressure, and if there is a stack economizer. @ your altitude, I would de-rate your gas output to 10% less than your rated BTU's. Also need to know the % of oxygen in your flue gas, and if the gas & air intake is staged or modulating.

Your gas supplier would have the valves. I would not do this if you dont have the expertise. There are too many things that can go wrong and it could cost you in terms of life lost. You need to be able to measure gas pressure etc

I have a cozy direct vent wall furnace installed about 1 year ago. The pilot blows out in strong wind. Is there a shield I can put around the vent?

Attempting to do what you propose, would be dangerous. Instead, replace it with one that's designed for high wind areas. You can find it at most Cozy dealers or they can order it for you.

If it's any consolation , you're not the only direct vent heater owner, that has had this problem. It's a very common problem. One that has been said to be "The nature of the beast."

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

My Cozy Heater sized and installed by professional will not heat

I'm assuming your heater is the little Cozy direct vent wall furnace, your room calculations are correct, and at 57 degrees your main burner is constantly on. If so, it sounds as if you have too low a flame which can be caused by a main burner jet with an undersized orifice (like a propane one that got in the wrong assembly line) or obstructed by dirt, inadequate gas pressure, or a main gas valve that is not fully opening.

Open the pilot light inspection door and look at the main burner flame height. If it is less than 2 inches or so, check out the three possibilities above. If the flame is very yellow and wandering around lazily, check the air intake on your vent cap for obstruction.

High Altitude Electric Heaters

I have never heard of altitude effecting the electric. Watts amps and volts are different than burning a gas, like propane. The high altitude has less oxygen thus requiring the combustion to be effected. If your wires are over heating when you use maximum wattage (amps) you need to install larger wire with the correct size breaker. Look up ohms law. Its a basic electrical formula and will help you get this right.
