Question about Frigidaire ATF6000ES Front Load Washer

How do you tighten the drive belt on a frigidaire stacked washer/dryer - I have access to washer from front - i have removed the front panel

Now that I have watched it spinning, the belt doesn't "appear" to be slipping. The noise is squeaking more than squeeling and there is also a clicking or tapping noise. The idler pulley appears to be spring loaded and still has spring action when i push on it

  • tschwartz52 Oct 04, 2009

The squeaking noise also continues when the belt has stopped and just the washer drum is rotating, so I guess it's not the belt. Are you there?

  • tschwartz52 Oct 04, 2009

My frigidair washer/dryer makes a squeaking and clicking sound when the drum is rotating on a spin cycle - even when the drive belt is stopped like at the end of the spin.

This makes sense - I'm going to check these ideas. Thanks for your help.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Make sure the bellows is not loose, also check the outer tub assembly & spin basket assembly.
Bellows
The bellows is a rubber sleeve that seals the suspended outer tub to the stationary cabinet front at the tub opening. Its purpose is to provide a water tight opening into the tub that can be sealed by the cabinet door, yet allow flexibility for the oscillation of the tub during the wash and spin cycles.
Outer Tub Assembly
The outer tub assembly is supported by two suspension springs and stabilized by two air shock assemblies. A cement counter weight is mounted to the front of the outer tub by screws. A counterweight is molded into the rear half of the outer tub. These counterweights prevent excessive oscillation of the entire suspended assembly during an unbalanced spin cycle.
Spin Basket Assembly
The spin basket is constructed of stainless steel. The circumference of the basket is perforated to allow water to flow through it as it revolves. A heavy steel shaft is pressed into the spin basket support which is then bolted to the basket. The spin basket assembly is entirely supported by two ball bearings pressed into the rear of the outer tub. A large drive pulley is mounted to the free end of the shaft that extends through the rear of the outer tub. There are three plastic vanes mounted to the spin basket to aid in the washing action during the wash cycle. The rotation of the spin basket provides both the washing action during the wash cycle, and water extraction during the spin cycle.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Is there an idler pulley on this machine? if so as most do have then the idler spring is broken, some are an actual spring and some are on spring steel if spring is broken or undone you'll see it somewhere in there lying around or hanging from one end

Washer spins but will not agitate

1) Verify a circuit breaker isn't tripped

2) Advance the timer control dial slowly 360 degrees-

If the washer starts spinning, then we know the motor and drive belt are fine but that there is something wrong with either the timer control dial or the agitator solenoid. Call in a professional for this.

If the washer doesn't budge, then verify that the drive belt(s) is attached and not broken by removing the back panel. If the belt is broken, replace it. If it is loose, then tighten it by loosening up the bolt holding the motor and moving it on its swingarm (much like a car alternator) until there is a 1/2 to 3/4 inch deflection in the belt.
Some washers use reversing motors. It's possible the motor works on the spin cycle but not on the wash cycle. If so, call a pro.

3) Visually inspect the lid safety switch- Is it loose or cracked? If so, the washer might work intermittently, stopping at different cycles.

4) Check motor and drive belt- Remove the main access panel (usually in the back). Is the motor spinning, but the drive belt isn't? If so, then you have a drive belt problem.

Need belt for stackable frigidaire washer and dryer. Model is FEX831CS The washer jerked and threw a breaker. Now the dryer won't work and the washer lets water run in and the inside starts jerking hard

If you think that the washing machine belt is the cause of your troubles you can find it in the very bottom of the machine (behind the front panel)
Would need more info on the dryer problem, (Is it running with no heat or not running at all)
the washer drive belt is the only easy fix on this model.
Good Luck

How do I replace the washer belt

Remove the front panel to the washer. Screws across the bottom. Push down on the front panel, then pull it out. Belt should go around transmission, motor pulley and tension roller.
