Question about Philips (DN4S2S05F/17) (5 Pack) (DN4S2S05F17) DVD-RW Storage Media

1 Answer

My Philips DVD+/- RW DVD8631 failed during a cd burn with error code 4450(0x00001162). Ever since, the drive is showing as empty and when I try to open it through the start menu, it shows "Write these files to cd" in the cd writing tasks menu. It is not reading or playing any cds or dvds. Do I just need a replacement drive or is it software related? The drive also opens automatically each time I boot up but does not open or close when I press the open button on the drive.

I bought 2nd hand NEC ND-3540A DVD-RW CD-RW DUAL LAYER REWRITER IDE for the replacement of Philips DVD R/RW Drive (DVD8631/96). However this ND-3540A will cause the ploblem of not only unworkable, but...

since you have been inside your computer and moving leads about some of these may be old and deteriotaed then any movement might

(crack break the circuit even if its slight)

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

My Philips DVD R/RW Drivde DVD8631/96(manufactured 2005)has died

Honestly, head over to a local computer shop and grab yourself a new OEM DVD RW. It should cost you somewhere in the range of $30. Don't go somewhere like BestBuy, as you will get charged obscene prices.

Make sure it has the right connectors, as many DVD drives are SATA these days. If you're not sure which you have, just bring it with you, and the staff should help you select the correct type.

Try restoring your PC to a date when it last worked, probably corrupt drivers or can also be caused by installing or uninstalling software or your Anti-Virus or Internet Security program

start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore
Click Restore my computer to an earlier dat
Click Next
Choose a sutable date and then on the right click a restore point
Click next
and leave to restore

Philips DVD+RW SDVD8820 does not recognise burned CD or DVDs

it could be upper and lower filters in registry and system files, use a removal tool called filtercheck 4.6 in CDR-zone.com (goto the forums and search for filtercheck)
after you downoad, run it, click yes to all filters found to remove. close program.

reinstall your preferred burning app (1 prog installed at a time and test burn)
this is to replace the filter entry that was corrupt

LG CD/DVD combo does not recognize virgin DVD´s

DVD combo do not burn DVD's they can only read DVD read CD and burn CD to burn on a dvd you need a dvd writer. A DVD combo is a combination of just a DVD ROM and a CD-RW.

with some models (even of LG) you only get one drive DVD/CD-RW but in dome version it shows as two different drives DVD and CD-RW. consider this as partioning of a drive if its to be analogued to HDD (though its not partioning its just diffrent PROMS)

Hope you understand that there is nothing wrong with your combo its just that you are expecting it to be a DVD-RAM which it is not.
