Switching from PC monitor to an HDTV monitor

I want to be able to hook my HDTV to my PC. I can do it if I manually hook up my video cable to my HDTV, but then if I want to use it on my PC monitor I have to switch it back. Is there some type of switch I can get so I'm not switching cables back and forth? I've done some research and found what is called a 2 Port monitor splitter adapter. Is this what I'm hunting for? Below is a site with what I'm talking about...... Thanks

Re: Switching from PC monitor to an HDTV monitor

Yes, this product will do the job. An easier solution, although probably more expensive, would be to use a video card with dual outputs. Using a video card with dual outputs would allow you to see the computer's video on both screens simultaneously.

I've got a 4 port switch with two computers hooked up - a desktop and a Lenovo Thinkpad R60 laptop - the desktop works perfect but when I switch to the laptop only the keyboard works - no video or mouse

The Thinkpad does not divert the video automatically to the external monitor via the KVM switch, you need to divert the video by pressing on the Fn key and the press the F7 key to toggle between the Thinkpad's LCD screen and the video port/external monitor. You may need to use a separate USB mouse connected to the Thinkpad.

I have an Avocent Switchview SC4 DVI hooked up to an HP monitor and an HP computer with a NVidia 9500GT dual DVI card in it. If you hook the monitor directly to the computer it works. However, I can't get...

Is your switch a SCxPDV or a SC4UAD? Regardless, if it's a DVI switch, you can try place a DVI-D cable in between your HP PC and the switch. Do the same between the switch and the HP monitor. I'm guessing you are currently using a DVI-I cable between the PC and the switch. Some video card/OS combo send out analog signal when you use a DVI-I cable on the PC, which would not be displayed if you are using the digital port on the monitor. To read up on the difference between DVI-I and DVI-D cables, check out

For future Avocent product related questions, I suggest you post them at Avocent's user forum as it's monitored by their tech support team.

Hope this helps. Thanks.

How do I hook up a Belkin 2-way Switch with Audio Support and Cabling?

kvm switches are easy, they just dont look it with the number of sockets.
hook up your keyboard monitor speaker mic mouse cables to the output sextion of the kvm just as if you were hooking them to a single pc.
hook the cables from the pc-s as if the kvm switch were the peripheral devices,
so that all the outputs from pc 'A' are connected to the relevant inputs on 'A' side of the kvm,
all the outputs from pc 'B' are connected to the relevant inputs on 'B' side of the kvm

Can's switch without it switching back to first PC

Sadly, it is probably the KVM as this particular model has a string of failures and is only rated 2 out of 5 stars on Amazon due to poor performance. :( What I would do first is plug in Computer 2 directly to the monitor, keyboard and mouse with no KVM. If those work fine, it is probably not a computer issue; if you don't get video here, then it is a seperate issue with that PC. If Computer 2 is working, plug both computers into the KVM but switch the cables (plug Computer 1 into the KVM using Computer 2's cables). If Computer 2 shows up and can't switch to Computer 1, then it is the KVM messing up.

CS62U 2 Port USBKVM Switch not switching

Are you sure, the usb cable belonging to the keyboard is plugged in the appropriate slot?
I have a wireless keyboard/mouse, so I have only 1 usb cable going into the switch. The first time, is plugged it into the slot of the mouse, and the switch did not work, so I plugged the cable in the other slot, and now everything works properly.

Problems with 2 Port KVM Switch with Built-In KVM Cables

The monitor is not detecting the video signal from your computer. Assuming both of your computer video cards have been tested and really work I would try the following: Try switching the cable sets that connect the PCs to the switch. If the problem follows the cable set then it?s likely the cause. If not then try switching the cables that plug into the switch so that PC#1 is now connected to the port where PC#2 originally was and vice versa. Again if the problem stays at the same position then I would suspect a defective switchbox. If it doesn?t then you probably have an issue with one of your PCs video cards. I know this is two months late but perhaps but hope this helps you or someone else researching a similar problem.

Problem with laptop connection

KVM's work best when you are using the same or similar type of hardware however there might be an issue with your video card interfacing with the KVM. I would switch the Video cables and see if the problem moved or disappeared. If the problem moves, then I would suspect the video card is the culprit. Since many problems can be traced to software compatibility issues, I would check to see if there is an updated driver for your video card and or your monitor first. If the problem disappears it could possible be a loose cable connection on the destop PC or the KVM itself. I would also try a different set of cables.
