Question about JVC AV-48WP30 48" Rear Projection Television
I was doing a convergence alignment in the service section of this tv when I pushed an incorrect button on the remote, the tv made a small pop noise and then went blank. Now it will not turn on and when it is plugged back in the blue power light comes on automatically and there is a soft clicking sound that comes from inside (sounds like a relay clicking) but I can not tell where it is coming from. I am not sure what to look for now.
CLicking relay means it is going to start up current and then reaches the over current protection or over voltage protection circuit's preset limits and goes into cut off. The most common cause is a failed horizontal output transistor (HOT). On this model the HOT rarely fails by itself but is overloaded by the failure of one of the scan derived voltages. Continued powering up of the TV could damage the SMPS. You can easily ohm out the HOT after you unsolder it. If it is bad you will have a big chore trying to find the load. The focus block has a history of failure as does the voltage divider for the 3 CRTs. Either way you will need another HOT that may fail again before you find the load. The lead for the High voltage transformer unplugs by twisting the connector as does the 3 leads on the divider. If you had previous problems with the convergence circuit it is a good bet the problem is there. There is also an issue of HV bleeding off of the annode leads going to the CRTs, The snap you heard could have been the arc jumping. HV sealant put on over the sealant already there fixes the problem. Without having known good boards you will have serious difficulty fixing this TV. I could spend hours going thru steps of things to check, but without the schematics you are dead in the water. We stopped making the CRTs for this TV so spending a lot of time T/Sing this TV and then finding out it is one of the CRTs that is loading down the HV will be a big bummer, since the only ones around are ones in somebodys stock room.

If you replace the convergence IC's and the issue continue.
Check in the deflection area the horizontzl transistor could be bad or short.

Replace convergence IC's and check low value resistors. Always use ORIGINAL NOT GENERIC OR KNOCKOFF PARTS. Board is accessable front front
