Question about Philips Magnavox 51MP392H Rear Projection Television

Hitachi chirps, will not turn on.

My Hitachi will not turn on unless I unplug it from the wall for 5 or moe minutes. When I plug it back in I hear a "dong" noise like the capasitor is charging just for a second though. The tv will ten turn on. If I turn it off with the remote It chirps, and will not turn back on. I opened it up and it was very dusty, so I blew it out with 35 psi compressed air. I left it for a while to let any moisture dry and plugged it back in. No joy with the original problem. model number C50FD2000. I suspect it is the HOT. not the Convergence IC's. Since it will power on and have great picture if unplgged for a while. I might be wrong though. I would like to do the repair myself, I work on aviation electronics, so my skill level it a bit higher than the norm. Any sugesstion and/or ideas are appreciated. Also, where might I find a schematic and/or service manual for this model TV? Thanks in advance.

I fix a lot of Hitachi sets but have never seen this model--if you GOOGLE the model number--( I just did this) there is a site where you can download the service manual (not allowed to post it here) for free.

I would from your description guess maybe a bad solder connection in or around the hot transistor, driver circuit or at the HV transformer.

Good hunting

The convergence issue might not affect the TV to the point of not turning ON.
The chirping noise you hear, it means there is a short circuit in the circuitry, possible the HOT or power supply assembly.

Can't turn wii back on

Did you unplug it from the Wii, or from the Wall Outlet? You need to unplug it from the wall outlet, not the Wii. If you haven't unplugged it from the wall outlet and left it unplugged for 5 to 10 minutes, then unplug it from the wall outlet and leave unplugged for a good 5 to 10 minutes.

This is a common problem with the Wii. Even if it's hooked up to a surge protector. If there was a power surge, or the power went out, etc...anything, this will happen. The problem is with the AC adapter, not the Wii itself, so power to the AC adapter needs to be cut off.

There is a circuit inside the AC adapter that needs to be reset. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall/surge protector outlet. Don't unlpug it from the Wii, it has to be at the outlet. You have to kill power to the adapter.

Unlpug it from the wall/surge protector outlet, and leave it unplugged for 5 or 10 minutes. This will kill power to the AC adapter, and give the circuit time to reset. When you plug the adapter back into the outlet after 5 or 10 minutes, the red led on the front should be lit up.

Hitachi 60" picture flashes on and off.

I've had the same issue although I don't unplug everything. I turn it off and then unplug it from the wall for 10 seconds then plug it back in. Seems ok after that. Has happened 4 or 5 times over the 10 years I've owned it.

If you hear the unit comming on and theres no sound or Picture, then theres a fault in the horizontal sweep/HI Voltage circuit. This should not be fooled with unless you know the safty issues with HI voltage as theres voltage in these sets even after they are unplgged for a while. Good Luck
