Keyboard and mouse won't work on the logon screen

When my laptop boots up and gets to the enter password screen, neither the mouse or the keyboard works. I have an acer aspire 5515. I tried hitting Fn F7 which is for keyboard function and that didn't work. Any other suggestions?

You gave no idea as to if it was a virus so I find it hard to see how a specfic name was mentioned by the oher post.

Howver it is a good place to start.

It may well be some form of virus or spyware.

It may also be that you have too many applications running at once eg. lots of toolbars and instant message type programs.

It can also happen on graphic intensive applications.

You should rule out nasty stuff first.

MBAM !

for a free one its pretty darned good !

From a CLEAN computer download and put on a flash drive.

Starts your computer in SAFE MODE by repeatedly pressing F8 as it boots and then select safe mode.

Copy from the flash to your DESKTOP on the suspect computer.

Run it but dont change any options just use what it offers.

When its done let it clean anything it finds.

Its where I always start with an infected machine.

As for antivirus AVOID Norton or Mcafee but try the AVG FREE version MBAM should clean up without buying

Only continued use would require purchase As for too many applications that would be up to you to decide what you REALLY need and dont. Most toolbars are a waste of both time and space and can hog computers down. Maybe a good clean up is in order ?
It may just be a "leaking application"

These are badly coded programs that dont release memory when they should and just keep taking more to do the same job.

May I suggest you download
"hijackthis"

It is a program that can make a report on what you have running in such a way that you can post that information to certain sites and experts there will look at it.

They will then give you reccomendations as to how you can remove programs or fix some issues that may be upsetting your computer.

Dont post the log here but follow the nstructions and help the program offers to send it to one of the sites it will offer you.

If you understand startup lists you may even be able to spot som things yourself that you dont want to run and disable them from hijack this.

you will have to remove it, then put one on. You can get a Password Reset disc download and burn to CD. Copy/paste the address below, into your address bar of your browser.

Try booting your computer from CD ROM with the OS CD/DVD already inserted and when prompted just try repair. If that does not work re-install the same on the same 'partition' assuming it to be C by deleting the the windows system files only. While doing so keep the internet on and immediately after the basic version of the OS is installed and the m/c boots-up for the first time, go to the official website and download the latest drivers for every component like toch-pad, keypad, display, audio, etc.(i.e. almost all the drivers)

Wireless Keyboard not connecting

I opened up the Logitech Mouse and Keyboard Settings, turned my keyboard off, changed out the batteries and turned it back on. It then detected the Keyboard and asked for a password, I entered in the password, it said it was rebooting it and asked for another password which I entered (both passwords were given to me in the Settings). Now it is working just fine! Not sure if you have tried this but it might work for you.

The keyboard, built in and external mouse do not respond.

If BIOS menu has User password set then nothing will work until you type in the password. The keyboard will appear not to be working until correct pwd is typed. Try entering your password like this
pwd1<Enter> pwd2<Enter> pwd3<Enter>
where pwd1 is your guess at the password and <Enter> is when you press the <Enter> key on keyboard.

I can't get on my computer

  1. Reboot Windows in Safe Mode. To access Safe Mode, Click Start -> Shutdown (or Turn Off), and choose 'Restart'. Once the computer restarts, press F8 repeatedly on the keyboard until a Boot Menu appear (this *must* be done before the Windows boot screen appears). Finally, choose to boot Windows in Safe Mode and press Enter on the keyboard.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK: control userpasswords2
  4. Click the user account that you forgot the password for, and then click Reset Password.
  5. Type a new password in both the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and then click OK.
