If saw has a compression release (or DECO valve) check for integrity when closed by spraying the valve with soapy water and checking for leaks when the rope is pulled.
If no DECO valve, check crankshaft seals with a leakdown test.
Test as follows:
1) Remove muffler and carb and block off exhaust port with air-tight plate/gasket to suit the fit.
2) Bring piston up to expose the intake port.
3) Install another block-off plate with a tire core valve (I made one myself using a tubeless valve and a 3/8 hole in the plate) to the intake port and attach a bicycle pump.
4) Apply VERY light air pressure (NO MORE THAN 2 - 3 PSI ) and spray the crankshaft seals with soapy water. If you have leakage, go no further.

If no leaks:
With healthy crankshaft seals the saw should have a MINIMUM of 100 lbs compression after 10 pulls of the starter rope. 125 lbs is preferred. If that test fails, head for the cylinder/piston/rings area to find the heart of the problem.

Hope this helps.

I have a Husqvarna 455 Rancher - about 1 month old. Worked perfect one day. Would not start the next. Feels like there is no compression. Second 455 with this problem.

There is only two reasons for low compression, either the piston ring has gummed in, or the piston has seized, remove the muffler and check out the condition of the piston skirt through the open exhaust port, any signs of scuffing and the piston has seized, it will then need to come apart to see how much damage has occured. Saws today are set up very lean on the mixture to get the best emmissions not the best running, they realy need to be using the very best two stroke oil.

50to 60 compression on a husqavarna 455 rancher chain saw. Ring job and how hard?

455 is an X Torq engine, this means it runs very cool on the inlet side of the piston, they are quite prone to gumming the ring in if they have been used on a heavy two stroke mix, due to the designit is a full machine strip down to get to the piston, skilled man 3 hours to strip and rebuild.

I have the 455 rancher and when I start the saw I pump the bulb 6-8 times and the saw will not run right. It sounds as though it is running out of gas. It bogs down when I pull the trigger. The saw is 2...

Before you do anything else i think you need to check the engine is mechanically sound, remove the muffler, take a look at the piston skirt through the open port, any signs of scuffing on the piston and it will require removing the cylinder to assess the damage, they are x torq engines, due to the way the air ports work they are quite prone to carboning in the piston rings, make sure it has plenty of compression.

Husqvarna 455 rancher Starts fine and runs great for about 5 mins. Stalls and wont restart until cold. Problem than repeats

Try removing the fuel cap for a moment to see it can be restarted immediately. If this works, check the fuel tank vent for plugging problems. Also, check for spark at the plug when it dies--if no spark, try a fresh plug gapped at 0.020". If nothing, the ignition module may be failing with heat. Good luck!

Husqvarna 455 rancher . it has low compression and no fuel to plug . wont start but piston and rings are fine .Help

it could be the small gasket between the head and carb. they are also bad about the fuel line coming out of the tank gettin rubbed and making a small hole or pinched.
