This is either because: 1. You only have black ink remaining and your tri-colour cartridge is empty or 2. In the printer driver settings you have selected either: Print Grey scale or Use black only.
I beleive your problem might be the last option.
To fix it :
1. Go to the printer driver (in vista go to: Start, Control panel, Printers, right click on your printer and select "printing preferences"). Now you are inside the printer driver. 2. go to the "color" tab. 3. Tehre you'll see if you have selected wither "Print in grey scale" and/or "Black only". 4. To ensure you get color again, de-select the"Print in grey scale" option.
Cheers, Ed

Have you tried going into the printer properties? Sometimes the default is set to greyscale.

When you try to print, click on the properties button that shows beside the printer that is selected.

Navigate through the tabs till you find the color settings and choose colour.

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.

How do you print in GRAYSCALE on my HP DESKJET 3320? I cannot find the option or feature that allows me to do this.

There is no such feature in the printer. It can be done only from the word processor. Select the portion you want grayscaled and give it the right color. Print.
The printers will print whatever the word processor tells it to print.
