Question about EliteGroup ECS PT800CE-A Socket478/PT800CE/DDR400/A&L/ATX Motherboard (MOTEC13)

ECS PT800CE-A 3.4 P4 HT CPU and DDR400 (PC3200) problems

I bought this board new a couple of years ago. My main computer died so I thought I would use this board and build a new one.

At this point I have installed and configured the motherboard, installed the 3.4 HT CPU, installed a floppy drive, installed an FSP 700 Watt power supply, installed 2 Gig of Kingston DDR400 memory and installed an ATI Radeon 9600XT AGP video card.

I used Microsoft Memory Tester to check the memory. I seem to always get ERAND errors. I took 1 stick of memory out and tested the remaining 1 Gig stick. I still get ERAND memory errors. I took out the last stick of memory and replaced it with the first stick I took out. Ran the memory test again and found that I still get ERAND errors.

I then gave up on DDR400 and tried DDR333, also Kingston. I put 1 stick in (512MB) and ran the memory test again. I only let it run for 3 passes and no memory errors where reported. I then removed that stick of memory and put the 2nd stick in. I ran the memory test again for 3 passes and no errors were reported. Great, on to the next step.

I then placed both sticks of DDR333 memory in (1Gig total) and ran the memory test. I am now back at the ERAND errors. Strange that each stick passed 3 passes (11 tests per pass) each but produce ERAND errors when 2 sticks are placed in.

The DDR400 ERAND errors where reported for each pass done. It did not matter, 1 stick at time or 2 sticks together. The DDR333 stick passed 3 passes (11 tests per pass) each but produce ERAND errors when 2 are used together.

Does anyone have this motherboard running with DDR400 memory? If so can you please provide me the make and model number.

Thanks for any help,

Charles

    Hi,

The CPU is not overclocked at all. I too do not know what an ERAND error is. It is test number 10 out of 11. I have tried every setting in the BIOS to tweak the DRAM timing. I loaded the Default BIOS settings, made no changes, but I still get these errors. As far as I can tell from BIOS 'PC Health' display the voltages are within specs.

    Thanks,

    Charles

I seem to be unable to find any information about what an ERAND error even is. No one is really identifying it on the net. One thing you may try though is to find out if the bios settings are maybe causing this. Is the system overclocked at all? Are the voltages correct? Maybe try resetting Bios to default settings and trying again.

I checked the web site. You've done all I can think of. the DDR 400 is the correct ram for the mother board. One other suggestion is to remove the ram and make sure the ram slots are cleaned out. Blow some compressed air down into the sockets.

I bought one a couple of years ago and it would not take a charge and since it was new I took it back. They commented that sometimes the batteries die in transit.

Many digital cameras (eg Samsung D53, Nikon 2100) have extremely poor battery life with alkaline batteries (under 20 shots!). Sometimes they won't even take a single picture.

Try using rechargeable batteries or "oxyride" disposable batteries. They perform infinately better.

This is just a suggestion ... try removing the battery and turning the computer on with only the mains power lead attached.

Sometimes, as the battery dies, it does silly things with the computer.

If it works, order a new battery.

Hope this helps,

Your circuit board has developed a short. There is only one way to fix it, replace the main circuit board. Buy an A530 camera with a cracked LCD online from someone, to fix it.

Replace both the main control board and the wax motor. This sounds like a computer chip malfunction

As far as the squeak, make sure it is not the bearing located at the back of the tub under the large pulley.
