Question about Acer Aspire 4520-5582 Notebook
I have reformatted my laptop in hope to get the cd/dvd drive back into the computer. but it failed, it has been missing from "my computer". I tried all the solutions i could find from the internet, including deleting upper filter, still can't work. there is no CD/DVD drive in device manager, no external removable disk drive seen on my computer. IS there any solution to it?
My laptop is Acer Aspire 4520.
Enter in the BIOS and see in the boot order or the internal units if the dvd unit is still there. If it isn't then it's dead, replace it.
If it is then you didn't do a correct reinstall. Enter the bios again and make sure the dvd unit is the first in the boot order, boot from a Linux Live-CD like PCLinuxOS and from Computer Management/ Hard Disks delete all partitions, format the entire disk to something else then format it again to NTFS or FAT. This is the only way you can be sure you are doing a clean install.

Tips for a great answer:
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
Hope this helps.
if this fails to fix the problem
It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it.
If still no joy
It might be past its use by date
