Goes out when you turn the control to on position? This is an indication of a defective thermocoupler.. The thermo coupler is the bulb that sits iin the pilot flame. If it goes bad it shuts off the gas valve so the main burner won't come on eith there being a pilot flame to ignite the gas. Inexpensive and easy to change. Good Luc-Ned_
The thermocoupler needs to be in the flame of the pilot. It allows the gas valxe to open when it gets hot.

SOURCE: Natural gas hot water heater not stying lit

Probably a bad solenoid in the gas valve. Higher voltage of a new thermocouple keeps it open longer but it still fails over a period of time. Look into a new gas valve for the water heater.

SOURCE: pilot light on water heater wont stay lit

The thermocouple has failed. It is the temp probe that goes from the pilot lite burner area to the control valve. Go to your local plumbng repair shop and buy one. Most appliance parts stores have them also. Take the old one with you and they will hook you up with an exact replacement. They are not that hard to change. Usually a nut or 2 screws in the temp bulb area at the burner end and a nut that threads into the control valve.
Make sure before you install the new one that the area where it mates to the gas valve is clean. Should be about a 20 min job including clean up with replacement parts in hand.

Is it the Pilot, or the main burner that won't stay lit?

The pilot has a little 'flame rod' in the path of the pilot flame, that conducts a tiny current thru the flame, to a detection circuit-- assuring that there is a pilot flame-- If that rod get's dirty, it can cause false trips. Is that any help?- Mack B

Pilot wont stay lit on waterheater. I replaced Thermocouple and that did not fix it. It will stay lit on vacation setting.

Most gas water heater problems can be fixed with yearly service that cleans burner and burner parts, checks gas pressure and bleeds air out of gas line, cleans air intake, and checks for venting and air intake problems.

Pilot liht wont stay lit on hot water heater.

You will need a new thermo coupler to keeep the pilot ight on. It is a probe that touches the pilot flame to sense the the regulator to feed the gas flow. Upon failing it shuts off the gas to the regulator so the unit does not catch on fire. In other words it is a fail safe part that is required

My pilot wont stay lit i cganged the thermocouple it worked for a couple of day now the pilot wont stay lit again

Make sure ALL covers are in place. Watch the pilot flame. It should not move around. If it does, there's a draft blowing it out.

I don't know how to restart my old bosch water wizard 10p, pilot light has gone out.

get a long stick match, a flashlight remove lower inspection cover, find thermocouple and pilot light will be next to it,turn gas valve to pilot light and hold down, stick the match in by thermocouple till the pilot lights and hold valve down till pilot stays lit, this may take a minute or more, then release gas valve and see if pilot stays lit, if not retry,if it wont stay lit,the thermocouple is defective and needs replacement
