Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

GE Refrigerator - TFX22ZR (side byb side)

Thanks , first of all.

Inside wall of freeser section, back wall has defrost ( it is not ice, but snow- Flaky) and that is about 3/8" thk. I remove with my hand and next day, it started to form the frost on inside rear wall. The food content inside the freezeer is not hard anymore.
The blower make noise, ie. it is working, compressor also seems working.

PS: now that I begin to see that the refrigerator section is loosing cooling effect but not that bad. Also, there is no apparent leak from the door gasket.

One of my friend mentioned to replace either timer or heating element. If you think it could be the reason, then how do I access to it ?

Thanks

First, fully defrost the unit by turning it off and letting it melt out for 2 days...or take the inside panel off the freezer and defrost it with a hair dryer...(electricity and water do not mix...careful). Allow to dry. Clean the condenser under the unit. Avoid 'window shopping' to keep humidity out of the box. Restart the unit. Look at the compressor's largest pipe. It should frost and then clear to either ice, water or dry out....not continue to stay frosty after about 5 minutes. If no frost at that time, you have enough refrigerant. If this doesn't work for you, then the timer can be accessed from the back of the inside of the fridge cabinet. The heating element is below the coils behind the freezer....Just follow the wires....But...I'm betting my solution fixes your problem.

The tempature gauge was is too high and the refrigerator is warming up and the freezer is at 26 degrees when it is suppose to be -0.

Your refrigerator is most likely missing defrost because of a defective defrost heater=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Look inside the freezer compartment and see if a layer of snow/ice is building on the back freezer wall. If yes unplug and defrost freezer compartment with a hair dryer or by filling a large bucket with hot water and placing inside and closing doors for a while. Be aware that excess water may run out on floor if not mopped up with towels while manually defrosting. You may also remove the rear panel in freezer listed as position 213 in this photo=> PSW26PSSAKSS_Freezer_Component's
and looking at photo you should replace parts 230 and 240. Number 240 is the defrost thermostat=> WR50X10068_Defrost_Thermostat Both of these parts have details of how to test before replacing listed on their links. I always think it is good to replace the defrost thermostat while inside working on the freezer. The thermostat can wear out also causing problems later. I will be here should you have further questions, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Refrigerator Freezer has ice forming in the bottom inside freezer section. It appears to be leaking down the back inside compartment. The top section has an ice maker and water dispenser but I haven't had...

I believe you just described a defrost condensate blockage that is causing the leaking. There are many reasons for this happening for example water leaking from a water supply line for the dispenser or ice maker, a in the defrost pan, water leaking and draining through the refrigerator cabinet, but most are caused by a defrost drain line blockage. Below is a link that may be helpful so try to take it all in and use the parts that most refer to your specific problem, Thanks Sea Breeze

GE fridge - too cold

$00.00... I think

Make sure no vents are blocked
(or frosted over)...

If you have a freezer (or friend with one)
& an ice chest... Parcel out your food for a
three day open air defrost...

Room fans would be great...
OPEN THE DOORS.

Use NO HEAT...
as the soft plastics inside your refrigerator
can be EASILY DAMAGED.

An errant pizza box or ice cube can cause air intrusion... significant frost (ultimately an ICE BLOCK). A total defrost
is the VERY BEST FIRST STEP...

HOWEVER... if the frost recurs
you might have a DEFROST FAILURE
(Totally different symptoms
(Not FREE... but also easy to fix)).

Here daily... FREE (just for this purpose)...

We can do this...

The bottom part of my refrigerator is not cooling properly.

Something inside the freezer compartment may be causing this. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the rear panel inside the freezer to examine the evaporator coil. It may not be defrosting properly and blocking the air flow to the lower section. Let me know what you find. If snow and ice is present defrost with a hair dryer and we need to check the defrost heater a d defrost components. Sea Breeze

SNOW FORMING IN FREEZER

Could be a number of things. Is the fan running in the freezer section, are the door gaskets sealing completely, even on the bottom of the doors? Could be a defrost issure where the thermotat is allowing it to over heat during defrost and the the cooling cycle starts after defrost and forms the ice an snow from the moisture in the unit.

GE Side by Side not defrosting

hello little G,

there are two more components that u need to check,

the defrost heater. ( heating element ) - it should have continuity ( low resistance )
and the bi-metal. ( should have continuity while the coil is covered with ice.) check it before you unplug the fridge.

the main board that you replaced is just the controller for defrosting.

tnx 4 using fixya,

drcool
