Question about Canon PowerShot SD800 IS / IXUS 850 IS Digital Camera
After turning on the camera, the screen is black and fuzzy. After taking some black/blank pictures (between 1 and 100 usually), the screen works again and subsequent pictures are visible. It seems to take longer and longer after each power on. Why is this happening?

This is a common problem with S1 IS and it is caused by faulty CCD sensor. Note that you can playback captured images without any problem but in capture mode all you get is blank screen. Will have to go to Canon but note that Canon repairs these models free of charge when it is the CCD sensor that stops working.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Did you accidentally press the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera? This button manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. Pictures will still appear momentarily when shot.
