HP Compaq 6710b is hanging up in the boot up.

HP Compaq 6710b starts the boot up and the Windows XP logo appears but hangs up for several minutes. Error message pops up and says that some unknown hardware or software problem has occured and suggests rebooting with last known working option. I reboot with that option (and others now) but it does the same thing. I looked for a reset button but no luck...I don't see an obvious button on the bottom or back. Any suggestions?

Start in safe mode and do a system restore

  • Anonymous Dec 23, 2007

Check you Memory Modules pull one at a time and see it boots now, I think may be one of your memory sticks became loose or is bad, Sorry about the safemode I see you already did that, Try the memory mods see if that does it, Hey also make sure you can here the Hd spinning too. I have had a bad hd and it would do the same thing, I sure hope thats not the problem but if it is you can get another for pretty cheap compared to a new unit.

I would try going to your bios and maybe setting them back to their defaults. If you're unsure how to do this let me know and I"ll assist you

My laptop not getting started and if i try to boot from windows setup its getting hanged

Try running the Check Disk Utility. Hopefully your operating system is still there to run the check disk utility. I do see where you say you ran a format which might have wiped it out.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

I have HP Compaq 6710b, Some days it got restarted and then never came through in OS (XP). After POST the screen got blank and nothing happened. I reinstalled my OS by using Repairing Options. Now when...

The hard disk got damaged and it's dying - the boot take longer because the boot sector was damaged and it had to be relocated.
Create a reinstall disk with the utility HP has installed in the laptop, buy a new hard disk and install it and then reinstall Windows with the disk you created.

My HP compaq nx6110 windows xp sp3 hangs at boot

Take a look at this post that deals with a HP nx6110 laptop with random freeze ups. If the described symptoms also happen on your laptop. If you do experience random freezeups or slow DVD you're facing the same FSB chip problem. All peripherals, USB ports included, are connected on the Front Side Bus. Poor soldering causes intermittent contact which in turn results in hanging, slow, or totally non bootable (stuck at HP logo) laptop. Hope this helps.

My HP laptop 6710 b gets hanged , thati s the

cool sounds like driver issues,
uninstalling the current drivers may leave you without function, thats bad,
try to update your drivers that would be my starting point

go to start
right click on computer
properties
device drivers
right click and update driver

it would be a good idea to be connected to the internet at this time otherwise the drivers will probably not be found for your update

Please rate me thanks MISTERDJ

PC BOOTS HALF WAY

Try booting into safe mode. If it's a driver problem, safe mode will allow you to start Windows with only the bare minimum of hardware and drivers being engaged. To get to safe mode, press the F8 button on your keyboard during the Windows boot process until it takes you to a screen to let you select Normal, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, etc. I would suggest not using anything other than just Safe Mode. From there, uninstall any software or new drivers that you recently installed. Alternatively, you can use the System Restore feature to rollback to a previous restore point.

PC freezes on boot-up

Try booting the thing in Safe Mode. Upon startup (after the Acer logo goes) press F8 several times. You will be offered a menu select Safe Mode (at the very top of the list). If the system reaches the desktop, you can repair your Windows. For the three fixes below you will need to go Start Menu>Run...
1) Write: fixmbr, and press ENTER.
2) Write: fixboot, and press ENTER.
3) Write: chkdsk, and press ENTER.
(The later will take several minutes, but you can read what stage it is doing).
