Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a Cozy Wall Furnace. It has an internal bulb stat to regulate the temperature and has numbers for temperature settings, not a thermostat with temperatures like I am used to.. I have never used a furnace like this before. Every time my husband and I use it we light the pilot, and turn the furnace on, and then when we are done using it for that single session, we blow out the pilot, and turn off the gas. Do we have to do this every single time we use it? or can we just set it at the lowest temperature and expect it not to go on? How does a bulb stat temperature control like this work?

Yes you can turn it all the way down but it will come on if the area it is in gets cold enough. The bulb is filled with a liquid that that has specific pressures that correlate to the temperature of the space. When turn the knob, you're adjusting pressure on a spring that allows the switch to close at a higher or lower pressure in relationship to the pressure being applied on the other side of the switch from the bulb.

I have a Cozy double-wall heater model number W505D and I am not able to turn it on. The pilot is on but the thermostat does not seem to to turn on. The thermostat is new so I doubt that it is...

make sure you have a millivolt stat and not a 24 volt stat should have a MV on the stat, you can pull the wires off of stat and twist together to get the unit to turn on if it does wrong stat.

What is easy way to replace the thermostate in

Hi, that thermostat should be a wall mount. This heater has only 2 wires and any "Heat only", "millivolt" thermostat will work. Remove the old T-Stat and mount the new one on the wall, only 2 wires and less than a volt so no shock danger, doesn't even matter which wire goes where. Good luck and comment back if you need any help.

My Cozy heater does not respond on the thermostat control

Make sure you have a stat that is for a millivolt system, if the stat you have has 24v on it wrong one, need to purchase at a heating wholesaler home depot lowes do not carry them. The stat should have mv for millivolts on the box or stat.

The heater will not ignite properly

How old is the thermostat? Also there a limit switches at different points on that unit. If you have a volt ohm meter find the round disc like safety's and ohm them out. Take the wires off the disc before testing them. You should have a continuity should be closed they only open if unit gets too hot. Say something like 180 degree's.

A fast way to check out the thermostat is take a small diameter wire take the cover off the t-stat and jump across the R and the W on the t-stat. If the furnace comes on then t-stat bad. Let me know if this is helpfull. Ken
