Question about Nikon D700 Digital Camera
Is the modeling flash turned on? It will release a strobe burst before the flash. If it is set to be activated by the button on the front of the camera and you keep hitting it with you finger it will drive you nut and blind everyone around

This may be due to something loose or internal damage in the camera's printed circuit. Also this can be due to settings. Try to go to the menus and reset all to factory default. Later you can pick the settings you want, if it works.
