Question about Hunter 28486 Ceiling Fan
Wire connect to? Light works with all other wires connected to like colors - fan does not work.
I have tried connecting the red fan wire(which apparently is wired to the actual fan) to black and black/white. In one case the fan works but there is a hum like something is energized, regardless of remote operation - in the other case fan does not work but there is a hum.
In summary, where do you connect the red fan wire to? Does it connect to any receiver wires or what? Hunter's web site is terrible - no support for "older fans" I guess they don't really expect their fans to last very long. No manuals, diagrams - nothing. Would it really be that burdensome to scan and store these items for the consumer? The answer is, of course, no - it is easy to do this. Welcome to the 21st Century, Hunter. Normally, I have every manual for everything I have ever bought... just not this - figures....

I have this fan model. The RED is a common wire. Wire it in with all the white wires. Better yet why don't you just bypass the module for the light. You could buy a more up to date Lutron wall switch W/remote control. The Black wire W/White stripe coming from the module is the light control. Cut & cap this with a wire nut. The same wire coming from the fan motor Connect it to your new wall switch. Now heres the tricky part. You have to run a new (Non switched) hot wire to your fan this will connect to the module normally. This is the new power for the fan. The remote that comes with the fan can serve as the On/Off 1,2 & 3 speeds. You now have two remotes. One for the fan the original and one for the light control w/wall switch. The new Lutron model will give you full dimming capability for incondesent bulbs. It is much less noisy when you are dimming the light down.
