CD drive not working

I put a CD in (yes it's clean) and basically nothing happens, it used to show a little CD icon next to the mouse but it doesn't anymore. After I put it in it just sits here doing nothing. I tried to manually run it but it says there's nothing in it. About 5+ years old computer, has been going on for about 2+ years. It is an "emachines" T5212. Everything works besides the CD drive. Help!

Based on your indication the CD drive is clean, and you know the cables are attached to it, inside the computer. (Flat ribbon IDE interface cable, and 4-pin Molex connector power cable)

1.Go to Device Manager

Left-click on Start. Right-click on My Computer. Go down, and Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Hardware tab. Go down, and Left-click on Device Manager.

Left-click on the + sign to the left of, DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right-click right on the name of the CD drive.

(Example: Lite On DVDRW LH-20A1P.
eMachines Support indicates the T5212 has a DVD burner drive, and a CD drive. Right-click on the CD drive name))

In the drop down list, Left-click on Properties.
Left-click on the Driver tab
Go below, and Left-click on the Update Driver 'button'. Now go below, and Left-click on OK.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Shut your computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)

Do Not Restart. We need a 'Hard Shut Down'.
Wait 1 minute, turn your computer on.

Still doesn't work?
Let's play hard ball.

2.Go back to Device Manager. Left-click on the + sign to the left of DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on the name of the CD drive. Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Driver tab.
This time go down, and Left-click on the Uninstall 'button'. Go below, and Left-click on OK

There will be a Microsoft 'squawk box' that comes up. "Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
Left-click on OK. (It IS okay!)

Close all windows. Shut down your computer normally. (Again, we need a 'Hard Shut Down'. To Restart a computer is known as a 'Soft Shut Down')

Wait 1 minute. Turn your computer on.
After Windows loads all the way, and all of your Start Menu programs have loaded, you should see a pop-up out of your system tray. (Bottom of Windows desktop screen)

"Found New Hardware", and perhaps another one, "Found XYZ CD drive". (XYZ = the CD drive name)

No still?

The driver for your CD drive, is located within the Windows XP operating system on your computer.
If your CD drive does not work now, I suggest it has failed.

Drives such as Optical drives, and Harddrives, are mechanical devices. Their 'Lifespan', is rated in so many hours of usage. Your CD drive may be at the end of it's 'Lifespan'.

If there is no installation CD then the wire connecting mouse to usb must have been ruptured

Hey my mac won't eject a disc. i have tried a lot of stuff and nothing happened. when i restart it the disk spins and doesn't sound stuck and when i used disk utility it said there was an error...

Resolution Tip: Make sure the CD or DVD disc is not in use. Quit all applications that are using files on the disc.
  1. Press the Media Eject key at the top-right corner of the keyboard.
  2. If that doesn't work, drag the disc's icon to the Trash.
  3. If that doesn't work, restart the computer, then hold down the mouse button or trackpad button while the computer is starting up, until the disc is ejected.
To restart, choose Restart from the Apple menu.

We put the disc in and nothing has happened to show/tell us how to get the wireless keyboard and mouse to work, what next.m

When you insert the software disc, most computers are set to autorun what's inserted into the disc drive. If yours is not enabled, you can insert your disc, go to My Computer, and right click on the drive with the CD, and click on Open, this should allow you to access the information on the cd. Just click on the setup.exe, and you should start installing in no time!

Nothing is openning

Hello,

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Does all your CDs not working when you insert them on your CDROM drive? There is a possibility that you CRRom drive's lens is failing. You can try cleaning it with a lens cleaner Or try this steps below.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save.
6. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

If this steps did not fix the problem i would suggest buy a new one to save you the hassle and time.

Sincerely,

Our hp pavilion 4535 will not read discs

I'm thinking of a couple of solutions:
  1. Auto run as turned off, navigate to your drives (usually in the My Computer icon) and check for your disc drive (usually Drive D:). If it is showing a disc then you can right-click and open to see the contents or double click for an auto-play.
  2. If you open up the drives and don't see a CD ROM drive then it might have gotten dropped some how. In this case you will want to go to the device manager and check to see if the CD ROM drive is listed and if it needs some fixing.

I have a game called world of warcraft when i put the disc in nothing happens you need 20g and i have 37g wats the problem.

Go to "my computer"
In there you will see an icon at the cd-rom drive for WOW.
(WOW = World of Warcraft)
Double click on that Icon
This will start the installer.
If you do not see an icon take out the CD and clean the drive and look at the CD or significant scratches. Little ones are okay.
