I totally powered the system down including pulling it out to check the connections again. Still not working. I get a NO CD message then the Error Code 3. It will not LOAD a new CD either (the red light doesn't come on).

    Hi,
A fix that often works for this problem is to pull the fuse for the radio from the fuse block out and leave it out for 10 minutes or so and then re-insert... HOWEVER, make sure you have the radio's security/unlock code handy because it will reset this and you will need to re-enter it after you re-insert the fuse and power the deck back up.

    Rylee,

The OBU tool solution is well beyond my understanding. I submitted the problem to the Audi owner help line and they came up with a somewhat risky but effective solution:

"If you receive and error code 3 and there is a CD inside you can use this procedure. !IF the radio is out of warranty, you can remove the radio (using the Audi/VW radio removal tools), move to a clean, well-lit location and remove the 2 gold screws at the rear of the unit. Gently lift the black top panel, it has all the unit identification number and inspection sticker (factory seal will break). Observe the CD load mechanism and any visible CDs. Check to see if there is an obstruction or the CD is tilted. If the CD did not load properly, gently press on the upper part of the cd until it aligns it self. Inspect the unit and replace the black top panel. Reconnect the power and stereo connectors. Turn the unit on and press and hold the eject button. If this resolves your problem -excellent-, if not pull the unit and check the CD. If it is tilted you have a bad feed and will have to repair or replace the unit. Audi A6 fan"

I was able to perform the repair and the unit is working perfectly. I think it was a bad CD (hopefully). I put a old CD (one I didn't mind losing) in and it seems to work. Please feel free to pass this on. As I said it is risky but seemed to work.

Error code 3 is a jammed/incorrectly installed disc. Apparently if you pull the fuse and leave it out for a while, the stereo will reset itself. Make sure you've got your security code for your radio before you pull the fuse.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error code 3 on Audi A4 radio occurs due to a jammed/incorrectly installed disc. Try and press eject button for 10-15 seconds to clear the error code.
If this doesn't resolves your issue then use an OBD tool and try to reprogram the radio with the software using the OBD tool.
Please see this link for more details--

Folow the step by step instructions.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks

User's manual of your car should have a schematic indicating On/off button else, try different buttons. One of them should turn your device on,
If you can't find any button which might turn your radio on, probably it is bad, not working.Return it to shapo and claim your warranty

You could try a laser lens cleaner (the one that looks like a CD with little brushes on it) to see if that'll do it. There's no guarantee that the problem is with the laser eye though. If it is (such as just being dirty or dusty) then this may do it. If not though, that error code may indicate a more permanent failure of the head unit.
