Try reseating the cables on the drive and reconnect the drive to a different usb port on the pc. Also try using a different usb cable. if neither situation solves your problem, then most likely, the hard drive has gone bad.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

My wd elements external hd is not recognized under windows 7. The pc diagnostics say that the device is working properly and the correct drivers are installed?

Go to Administrative Tools in Control Panel. Computer Management then Storage, Disk Management. You'll probably have to recognise it and assign a drive number.

The computer no longer sees my 320 gb hard drive, do i need to download new drivers? if ao where do i find them. i store all my photo's and music on this hard drive

Possibilities:
1. dead USB port on your computer -- try another port
2. try a different USB cable
3. try your external drive on some other computer, to see if it works at all
4. open the casing, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter. Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive, thus bypassing that adapter, to see if the adapter has failed, or if the disk-drive itself has failed
5. Google-search for a commercial "data recovery service" -- such companies can disassemble your disk-drive, and fix it, just long-enough to copy all your photos/music onto a brand-new disk-drive.

Hello,
Try to go through disk management and see if it works?
Open control panel then select administrative tools then disk management. Then in left column click disk management.
If you locate it may be it must be initialise by the system or need to create partition by formatting.
You can also check all the cables , the power cables the adapter , try to change the Usb cable also..
ok
Good luck !!

Vista Home Edition Driver Problems

Hi Ajay.

It would be best if you take a back up of important files from your OS drive and make a clean installation of the OS again. There might be an issue of corrupt OS files.

Hope that solves it.

WD 1TB Hard-drive, worked perfectly now it won't :'(

If you go into Administrative Tools, Computer Management, you will see a tree for disk management. It should be listed there - probably without a drive letter..
You can partition and format there.

To get to administrative tools: Go into your control panel - click on classic view and it is one of the top options.

My computer will not read my io magic giga bank 6 gb

Was your computer ever able to recognize your GigaBank, or is it new?

The most common problem people have with a new drive not showing up in My Computer are:

1) The drive is not formatted

2) The drive letter is mapped incorrectly

You can check both of these things in Disk Management by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Manage, then clicking on Disk Management on the left hand side.

If your drive doesn't show up in Disk Management, and you are also unable to see the drive on multiple computers, then you may be experiencing a hardware malfunction.

If you are still within your warranty period and you are experiencing a hardware malfunction, we will be happy to replace your unit for you. Specific warranty and replacement information is available at www.iomagic.com, by clicking on Support.

Hello,
If the external hard drive is new, you have to follow these steps:
right-click on My Computer
click Manage
then choose Disk Management in side pane.
a disk initialization wizard should appear.
Get the new drive formatted now and it should be ready
when you open the My Computer.
Let me know if you have any problems.

Maxtor External 500 GB Hard Drive

Hi, 1. "Is the data recoverable?" Yes but the manner by which it can be recovered can be either very expensive (their are firms whose specialty id data recovery) or none at all if you do DIY (do it yourself) or worst case not economical reasonable but recovery possible. I would assume that your would want to try DIY. 1.1 Run diagnostic on the external drive using scandisk, Norton Disk Doctor, Partition Magic's ChkDsk and/or Check Errors. Recovery can be done using a recovery software such as GetDataBack; or 1.2 You need an external desktop PC, a working knowledge of computer hardware. You have to disassemble the external HD and remove the actual HD. Physicall connect it to the 2nd PC (desktop) as a seconday Master either by IDE or SATA as applicable. If detected by the desktop PC in the bios, you should be able to work on it even if with errors; 1.3 If mechanical problem or otherwise, you may want to check out this posting > http://www.fixya.com/support/t162904-seagate_barracuda_7200_7_st380011a Hope this works out for you and/or give you some ideas. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.
