Freezers have their condenser coils in the outside, near the sides and all wrapped around. This part gets warm/hot during operation. The evaporator coils is around the inside wall, right next to the food. This coil gets cold when the freezer runs. It's a fairly efficient way to route these coils, and they don't need to have a fan this way.

So this is normal.

Sides of Haier Compact Fridge are very hot to the touch

On some small units such as this, the condenser coil is actually in the walls of the cooler. It is not that unusual for this type of construction. I have seen this in chest freezers and other such units. If the unit makes the desired temperature, I would watch it for a day or 2 before putting any product into it to ensure it is okay and so you don't loose any product.

Your defrost timer has stuck to on position, replace timer and all good or locate timer and spray lubricant into the dial and turn it several times with unit off, then try it after several hours, quick fix only but may last several years...good luck...Russ

After turning the freezer off to defrost it noted the top and sides got pretty hot.Is this normal?

yes it is as most units have a heater around the doors and inside the unit to aid in defrost and to help keep the unit frost free

4 yr. old side by side not cooling on either side. Fan running but compresser is very hot.Could it be low on freon? Thanks Tim

They NEVER go low on freon unless you have a leak. If so it must be found and repaired. I would recommend calling a qualified technican to service your unit.

The front surface of the chest freezer is pretty hot.

the condenser lines are between the walls of the frzr and if it has a fan to cool the compressor down and it is stalled is the reason the walls are so hot and no it will not cool down over time if new is a flaw in making of this unit take it back or if older only the side should be getting warm not hot then if older be cautious of this no repair can be done on these type of unit they are between foam filled walls....

Upright freezer hot to the touch on the sides.

inspect the unit for a fan near the compressor not to be alarmed some do not have a fan if so insure that it is running while the compressor is running also some defrost problems will cause this the unit runs for a long time heating the compressor and by way passing the heat along

Freezer stopped freezing

If you checked the fan and for ice on the back wall (for defrost problem) Then you most likely are low on freon or you have a bad compressor. Check to see if the compressor is running (IF scorching hot its bad too) . Next check to see if the coils under the unit are hot. They should be so hot you cant hold onto them. Just touch for a second. If they are just warm, then you are low in freon.

Sides of freezer extremely hot

if there is air getting into the freezer because the door is not sealing properly the unit will run because it is sensing it is not cold enough inside. your unit releses the heat from the refrigerant through copper tubing that runs through the cabinet, and thats why it is hot. you need to level the unit make sure the door is sealing on the top bottom and both sides ansd then the freezer will work properly and be able to shut off after it has come down to the proper temp.
