I have a fujifilm S6500fd and i can turn it on to view the pictures on my memory card but when i switch it round to take a photo it goes blank an none of the buttons work - everything works fine except when in the mode to take a picture.
When i turn the camera straight to the capture mode the noise it used to make still sounds but there is nothing after that.

I have the same problem as you. Pictures are in black and photo cartridges already wasted 3. Today I opened my camera and not a spring tea that is attached to the lever capture modes (sunny, noblado etc) was detached. Because I remember when the camera is turned on (pulling the lens) capture modes to move too. So every time you take a photo you must manually set the capture mode, and it stopped working. I hope it is resolved by attaching the spring. You already solved?
I don't understand what you mean with shift it to capture / camera mode.
To make a video, you press the button on the back side top right. To stop the recording you press the same button.
If you want to make a picture, you press the button on the top of the camera, that is inside the zoom lever.
When you want to view what is on the memory card, you press the button with the arrow, point in to the right, jut above the arrow pad on the beck of the camera.
Make sure you have a memory card in the camera.
Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
Check if the customer function III was not disabled by accident - set it to 2 (live mode) for best results. Also, autofocus in liveview mode is activated by the * (star) button (upper right corner of the back of the camera body), not the shutter release button.
Two things to try... A) If you have a card with some photo's on it then put it in the camera... Will the camera display the photos from the card in view/play mode? If so then the screen is working but the sensor in the camera may have died (the but that captures the image). B) Try taking a picture with the camera (go through the steps to take one even though you can't see anything on the screen). Then put the memory card in a reader or a friends camera and see if the picture did get taken. If so then the sensor is still okay and the fault may be with the display.
If the display will show images from the memory card but doesn't show anything when in picture-taking mode but the camera does take pictures then the camera has a fault that isn't either the sensor or the LCD. It could then be an electronic failure or a problem with the mode selection switch.
