Fine colored lines on lcd screen

I have a toshiba lcd lap top which just started getting these very fine lines running vertically on the screen and they are different colors. Is my LCD screen beginning to fail? If so, can I buy something to fix it?

Please help!

Crikey, I think mine's the F10 or something, but this happened to me tonight too: fine lines down the screen. I hate the machine though so will probably just remove the disk, and take great pleasure throwing it against the wall. I will NEVER buy another Toshiba.

Qosmio G15 is also experiencing the same issue with fine vertical lines in the background. Essentially everywhere there usually is white background, I have pink fine vertical lines. Customer service and they next level case managers would not authorize any repair since I am out of warranty. The flat fee, I was told is $595, which is outrageous given the issue is a known about defect! In total, I have had 5-repairs performed on this machine in the three years I have owned it. I have left a message for Pamela Saunders at corporate DPD, 949-583-3000 or 1-800-272-0569, in Irvine CA. I hope she is more reasonable. As it stands, I will not be purchasing another Toshiba product in the near future.

All of a sudden I got red lines running vertically down the screen. And it won't boot unless I run it in VGA mode. Sounds like a video card problem to me... can anyone tell be differently. I've done everything but the bias..

Sorry for the uppercase, but I get 3 phone calls a day, apparently stemming from someone (PNWSolutions) providing the wrong phone number to fellow readers.

The phone number 949-462-6000 is incorrect. You will not reach anyone that can help you there because is an entirely different Toshiba company, who does not deal with laptops at all.

The correct number is (800) 457-7777 for the Toshiba America Information Systems call center as you can see here:

Of course you can choose to call Pam Saunders directly at (949) 583-3000 [dial by name], but I doubt she will be able to handle the volume of requests.

Your best best is really the customer support call center which is staffed appropriately for such tasks.

I had the same problem, what you need to do is call Pamela Saunders at Toshiba Corporate in Irving, CA and she will get it repaired for you at no cost to you regardless of warranty. This is a bad batch of computers.

The Phone Number is: 800-457-7777 or 949-462-6000

You have some problem with either your lcd itself or the data cable that transmit a video signal from your motherboard to lcd.
it could be also just a loose connection.

the best is to get a technician to have a look at it.

good luck

I have virtical lines on lap top

Once you start to get vertical lines on your LCD screen, it's usually time for a new screen. I would check first by running an external monitor just to be sure it's not the video card.

Vertical lines on my lcd laptop screen

It's the connector problems.
If you know what to do, I can guide you:

First, remove the screw all over the LCD case, then you can see the connector, and flexible cables.
Second, remove the keyboard unit(by removing all screw on the unit), after removed, find the edge of the LCD cables, then you can see the connector.

The solution:
1.Try clean this two connector with soft brushes ( paint brush is good ), by removing the cable first, then clean the flexible connector using wet tissue ( use the alcohol ).

2. If still exist, you need to replace the flexible with new ones.

Does the laptop have integrated or dedicated graphics?
This could be a problem with the graphics drivers. Go to the Toshiba website, and get the latest drivers for you PC, this should solve the problem. If this doesn't solve it, than it looks like the screen / graphics controller / GPU is failing.

Screen problem.

Does your LCD look like this or similiar? (below) If it does, there should be a female plug similiar to the picture also below.
Hook smaller end of cable to your laptop, the other end to your external monitor. Turn on your laptop. If the vertical lines are not present then its probably your LCD, which will more than likely have to be replaced. If lines are present, then like tom19511 said it may be the video drivers. I've had this same problem with my Toshiba Satellite p35 5 times already. Toshiba had to replace my LCD each time. LCD's are more expensive than an inverter. Good luck, I hope you get it fixed.

Fine lines running vertically in screen

First, which model of Toshiba notebook do you have? Check it's bottom label- it will say "Toshiba" and have the model on it.
Then, try to update the display drivers. You can download them at If that doesn't work, you may have an issue with the BIOS or the display itself.
