Question about Foxconn Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I built a computer for a family member. I installed the Vista 32 bit operating system and everything was fine. I rebooted the machine nearly 20 times and had no trouble. However, when it arrived at its destination nearly 750 miles away, I was informed that it will not boot up and it keeps indicating select a first boot device. The hardrive is set but when exiting from BIOS, "Boot from CD" keeps coming up? Again, I am 750 miles away from the PC and have been discussing this over the phone. Can anyone help?

Could be the battery in the motherboard, even in a brand new motherboard the battery can get bad, that's why they loose the bios settings and now is like you started for first time without the settings for booting, the date,
which one is the first bootable device etc.

You can right click the program and try troubleshooting compatability. otherwise it wont work with vista. To be honest, Vista is the worst OS ever. Upgrade to windows 7

I have windows vista and i am trying to install my lexmark x4270 and it will not install on my computer.

Are you getting any particular error messages on the computer when installing the software? If none, uninstall any existing Lexmark software in the computer properly by clicking on the Windows logo Start menu > Programs > Lexmark Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Reboot pc. To reinstall, I advise you to use the updated version of the software w/c is available for download in the Lexmark website. Before downloading, check if your Vista is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system by clicking on the Windows logo Start menu> right click on Computer > Properties. To download, click on the operating system of your computer below:
- Windows Vista (32-bit)
- Microsoft Vista x64 (64-bit)
Install the software. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment. I'll get right back to it.

Windows Vista won't install on my laptop.

Hello
Is this a clean install or an upgrade?Sounds like a upgrade.

You may need to format or wipe your hard drive clean, then try to install.

Try to boot from the vista disc and choose the clean install method.

Remember you will loose everything on your laptop doing this kind of install.

Video is sporadic. Will work at first but if any

This Presario uses the 256 MB dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon X600 Video Display card according to the manufacture's website. Also this system came from HP with Windows XP or Windows Vista.

This may be a driver issue. Dealing with video driver issues can be difficult, but there are tools that can help.

If you are using Windows, boot into Safe Mode by pressing the "F8" key during initial startup. You will be presented with the option screen with many choices. Pick Safe Mode without networking.

After a second, Windows will boot into Safe Mode. From there go to the Control Panel and then to Add Remove Programs (XP) or Programs (Vista & Windows 7). Find the program(s) from ATI including

- ATI Software Uninstall Utility
- ATI Catalyst Control Center
- ATI Display Driver

These may prompt you to reboot after each removal, please select a manual reboot, or reboot at a later time.

Once all the ATI items have been removed, restart the computer. The system will reboot and it will load a generic driver. The screen may look different as the resolution has changed. This is normal.

Go to Softpedia and download Driver Cleaner to finish removing the drivers as they are still cached in the system. The link is here at http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Driver-Cleaner-Professional-15.shtml

Install and run this tool to finish the removal of the cached ATI Driver files. The screen may flicker, this is normal.

After completing the installation, restart the machine again.

When the reboot has completed go to ATI to obtain the latest driver here at:

NOTE: If you are using Vista, please make sure to obtain the correct driver for the 32 bit or 64 bit operating systems. This information can be found by right clicking on "Computer" in the Start Menu, then selecting "Properties". Once this is up there will be displayed the related information on your system. Look specifically for "System Type" and it will read "32-bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System"

(Windows XP) http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.19&lang=English

(Vista 32 Bit)
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.19&lang=English

(Vista 64 Bit)
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.19&lang=English

Select the Catalyst Software Suite. It is a large file and will require time to down load. Save the file to the computer. Once you have it you will need to run it. Installation will run then ask to reboot.

Reboot your system.

You may notice again the screen flickers. This is normal and the machine may also be slow for the first few mins after reboot. After a few minuets have passed you can adjust the screen resolution by right clicking on empty space on the desktop and selecting "Properties" (XP), then the "Settings" tab or "Screen Resolution" (Vista). The factory specs for the Presario are WXGA+ (1440x900) max resolution.

After adjusting resolution I suggest going to getting the latest version of DirectX (DX 9c Feb 2010) from Microsoft here at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

This may also be a large file depending on what the installer needs and will require time to download.

This should complete the driver installation.

The Driver Cleaner tool can be removed now form the computer.

How can I change the resolution from 1280 x 800? This is the highest possible according to the display setttings. I have removed the generic pNp monitor. I am running Vista Business. The display adapter is...

Graphics Unable to use the native resolution, such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050 and 1440x900 circuit388.gif Symptom(s):
On some displays, users may be unable to use the native resolution when using Intel® chipset graphics. Resolutions such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050, and 1440x900 are not available in graphics properties.

Cause:
The display's EDID is not read properly when connected to some digital flat panel displays. Display devices describe its capabilities by sending EDID (Extended Display Information Data) to the computer.

Solution:
Intel has released a graphics driver to specifically address this issue; however, there may be side effects to this solution such as longer than normal resume times from standby. This solution will only work with external displays such as DFP displays connected to the computer's VGA port. This driver is not designed to address issues with a notebook's built-in display (Local Flat Panel) or with TV’s connected to the system. This driver is provided as is. Intel has not tested, and does not guarantee, the operation of the driver for this purpose.

I can't to install Windows vista 64 bit within a 32 bit

hi,
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows XP and want to install a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you must boot the computer from the 64-bit Windows Vista DVD and then perform a custom installation of Windows Vista. Back up data before you start the custom installation.

Problem related to bios setup

it doesn't matter. if you are running 32 bit operating ssytem. you can get majority of the hardware drivers.
however, if the operating sytem is 64-bit, you can't run it on a 32-bit machine. that is what determine by the BIOS.
since you have install the sytem and it seems running fine. I would just leave it alone.

Best operating system for new build?

Either Windows XP or Vista 64 bit edition, depending on what you like...I won't get into the xp vs. vista battle here lol. The 64 bit operating systems can see all of your memory, with the 32 bit OS's, you're limited to around 3 or so gigs. Do note, that there may be some incompatibilities with a 64 bit operating system, though most programs should run fine.
