If you haven't owned for over 2 years it should be under warranty.

Why does the chain keeps tightening

Has it ever come off while using it? If so, there may be burrs on the drive teeth making the chain wider than the bar opening, also if there is no oil getting to chain while operating chain could bind from heat, check sprocket on the bar tip for blockage and inspect the clutch bearing.

Mulcher repair

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

If the chainsaw chain does not engage the clutch assembly might be worn out. The clutch is similar to an automotive clutch. The chain sprocket is attached to the clutch drum and there are clutch pads underneath. As the pads wear out the clutch assembly no longer engages with the motor and the chain does not engage either.

Clutch Band kit

Chainsaws are equipped with a clutch band, a steel band that wraps around the clutch drum and is activated by the emergency stop lever. If the lever does not disengage the chain does not engage. Check to be sure the stop lever is disengaged. Adjust the clutch band if necessary.

Husquvarna brake band adjustment

If you pulled the brake toward you to engage it, simply push it back out to disengage it. (might take more pressure to release it than to engage it)

Chain brake locked

Take off the clutch cover and make sure the area isn't gummed up preventing the brake from disengaging. Generally the brake consists of metal strap that goes around the clutch and is tightened when the brake bar is pushed forward. The tensioning is adjusted through a spring mechanism and it may need to be loosened as well. Hope this helps!

The metal band around the outside of the clutch is no good

That's not supposed to be tight normally, that's the brake band. It locks up around the clutch drum to stop the chain if the chain brake is pushed forward. Pull the handle back, and it should release.

Get side plate back on my husqvarna 350 chainsaw and tighten the 2 washers back on and the chainsaw cuts out. what could be the probelm?

It could be the brake has activated, the band is now smaller than the drum, as you tighten the nuts the band which is not properly over the drum is locking against the clutch, thus stalling the engine, you need to remove the cover and load the brake, there is a couple of ways to do this, you can remove the hand gaurd from the saw and use this to insert into the brake mechanism, then pull it firmly back until the brake clicks and the band locks back, or you can remove the clutch and drum, the brake will easily go back onto the saw, you can then load the brake on the saw in the normal way, to remove the clutch, there is two cut a ways in the clutch centre so as to insert a screw driver, you can then strike the head of the screw driver to jar the clutch off against the compression of the saw, it is a left hand thread.

I have a Model 460 Rancher Husqvarna chain saw that wasn't working properly, it would shut off while in use (cutting trees) so I took the Clutch Cover plate off the side to check the chain and...

The reason the cover will not go back on is because the brake has activated, the band is now smaller than the drum, clamp the brake in a vice, be careful not to damage the cover, remove the hand guard from the saw, now use this to engage into the brake mechanism and pull back to load the brake, as for the running issue, i have seen some fuel tank breather problems, when the saw starts to die, just quickly slacken off the filler cap, if it picks up again it is the breather, the breather is situated under the starter cove to the side of the filler cap, replace the the white breather.

Hi, the chain brake has most likely been activated while removing the cover. Place the cover in a vise where the bar nuts tighten up to and pull the chain brake lever backwards towards where the handle bar would be. It should click back and stay back. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

How do I get the brake band ,located inside the chain cover, assembled back onto the chain saw. clutch assembly. The band brake diameter seems too small to fit around the clutch housing.

You need to load the brake, clamp it in a vice, be carefull not to damage the cover, if the hand gaurd is connected to the brake pull it fully back until the locks off, this may take a fair amount of force as it is compressing a large spring, if the hand guard is on the machine, remove it and use this as a tool to load the brake, the only other way is to remoce the clutch and sprocket, now refit the brake onto the saw, now pull the hand guard fully back to load the brake.

Chain brake band will not release to replace the clutch cover

Hi there
Sometimes that's not an easy job . I work for a Husqvarna dealer and I have that problem frequently . First try to get the clutch cover on place (do not use the bolts) and push in @ the top part of the clutch cover , then try to move the clutch lever backwards to release the band (better if done with two people) . If that does not work the only way is remove the clutch lever with the 2 bolts on each side and put the lever on the clutch cover (top metal piece that looks like a clover)to release the band (again with 2 people one holds the clutch cover and the other one the lever pulling the lever backwards) .
Hope this help
