Question about Televison & Video

42" Philips Plasma with intermittent power up problem.

Works perfectly fine one day and the next time you go to turn it on little red light flashes at the bottom left of the screen and TV won't power up. Unpplug from the electrical outlet for awhile and start over and all works fine. What's the deal?

Will not turn on, little red light is flashing being that it is plugged in. But still wont turn on.

The red light will flash a code. If it's 3 there are bad caps on the power supply. 2 big ones bulged near the edge. If the light flashes 7 times it needs a Y-Drive and can be a costly repair. Both are common, and remember if there's any doubt take it to a pro. Goodluck.

This fix was posted on similar problem, worthy of repeating: Replaced 3300mf 10V capacitors at PS. Both had bulged slightly. Upsized to 25V as the previous solution poster had suggested 16V but I could not locate 16V so used 25V and TV is back to normal!

7 red flashing lights, won't power up..

Check the power board for capacitors with the tops bulged up. They are 3300uf 10v. There are either 2 or 4 of them depending on your set.

After you remove the back cover inspect the power supply board for swollen or bulging capacitors. Pull and check any capacitors that you suspect to be swollen. Next, look for a sticker in the upper right hand side of the TV set. Use the values you find on the sticker to calibrate the voltages on the power supply board.
