Question about Washing Machines
I just picked up a used Whirlpool Quiet Wash II. When it goes into the wash cycle the center pole, for lack of a better description, doesn't really move left to right. The lower bottom mixer does but the center piece just wiggles a little. I can spin it freely with my fingers counter or clockwise. Is this normal?
No. This is commonly caused by worn agitator dogs. The upper portion of the agitator (called the auger) has a cam assembly with small agitator dogs that act as a clutching mechanism to drive the auger during the wash cycle. They wear out over time and need to periodically be replaced. The following link explains what they are and how to replace them:
The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase replacements at appliancepartspros.com for about $5. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam replacement kit which includes the dogs, cam, seals and washers.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
