Turns off afte a few seconds

We have already replaced a lamp about a year ago and we have replaced the colorwheel and fan as well. I think it may be the lamp again but I am not sure. When we turn the tv on we can hear the sound but no stays on for about 5 to 10 seconds and then turns off.

Re: Turns off afte a few seconds

Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy. Some models are real bulb hogs though. Look them up on the net (include the word complaint or repair) before you buy, or you might be sorry. Many class action lawsuits out there - even against some of the name brand makers.

I would suggest it is a ballast problem. You can check supply of 5 volts to ballast's small 5 pin connector (trigger voltage) and about 300V-330V to large 2pin connector. If both voltages present at the start and lamp is working with in another TV - it is bad ballast.

TV on/off

How long is your TV on before it turns off? Check the fans and make sure they are all working. The TV may be shutting off due to overheating if a fan quit working.

If you think the lamp is still good maybe try replacing the lamp ballast.

It is b.s. but it's not only samsung that have poor reliability. At least they have some customer service. Some new brands are a nightmare. I would suggest changing the ballast first, and if that doesn't do it, you're probably looking at a dmd board which is very expensive. Only other thing I can say is to try removing and reseating the lamp switch again. Also listen for the color wheel to start up a few seconds after you push power on. Color wheel is started by dmd board, lamp is driven by ballast.

Noisy colorwheel has finally faded to black! Can we replace it ourselves?

You can replace it yourself if you are so inclined. I would suggest talking to the local repair shop. They can get them for a fraction of the cost.
