Inside the large cover at the bottom of your carb is a flotation bulb which controlls a small metal rod with a pointed end which opens and closes the flow of fuel.Dirt or gummy deposits stop the closure and allow fuel to flow freely through the engine. If your a handy type remove the carb and take the large cover off the carb remove the float and the "needle valve and clean the tip of the valve and the narrow hole the valve goes in with carb cleaner and small brushes. If not so handy remove the carb and take it to a knowledgeable neighbor or repair shop. If you do the work yourself take digital pics of the process to help reassembly.

18hp ohv cuts out after it gets warm or hot like it is running out of gas

I have a 12.5 hp Briggs & Stratton on a Murray that did that. The carburator is right above the muffler and when I replaced the muffler, I didn't put the heat shield between the muffler and carburator back on. The added heat from the muffler was vaporizing the gas in the carburator where the engine would no longer run once it got hot. Replacing my heat shield and putting a longer pipe on the muffler to get it away from the carburator solved my problem.

Have a murrry mower with 12 hp moter put a cut off on gas line some times runs ok then will start flooding if you cut gas line off start engin it will run a second or two then start blowing oil out an

If you have a float style carb I believe the float has become a "sinker". Pull the float bowl off the carb and set aside. pull the float pin and also set aside. carefully remove float and needle, set needle aside. Shake the float near your ear. If you hear sloshing in the float, replace it. No? check needle and seat for wear, or since you're into the carb this far replace them. This info is based on Tecumseh carbs, but B&S or Kohler should be similar. If there are any other questions don't be afraid to ask. There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Gas shooting out of rubber hose above carburator. craftsman lt200 with kohler engine.

If hose coming off carburator does not connect to anything then it is the over flow for carburator when float gets stuck and does not close needle valve causing excess fuel in carburator bowl and is drained automatically through vent orfice connected to hose that gas is dripping from. If this is the case then remove carburator bowl, check float, needle valve and o-ring in where needle valve goes. sometimes when carburators sit over winter with gas in them the gas breaks down and over time will gel/harden and cause float to hang up and o-ring for needle valve to deteriate and not sealing properly. clean and replace parts as nessesary.
I hope this helped.

Kohler 17.5 HP floods after turned off over night. Gas spits out of muffler when you try to start. It`s hard to start but run fine after engine starts

Probably a leaking float valve. If it has a fuel shut off, use it, and run it out of gas after each use.
If you pull the bowl off the carb, it's the valve attached to the float. cleaning it may help, or replace it.

Craftsman riding mower will not start

Same thing happened to me with my 26 horse kohler craftsman. Replaced EVERYTHING (spark plug, fuel filter, oil filter, and degunked the carborator), and still was flooding. It ended up being the flywheel key. Cheap part, quick fix. I guess it can happen when you hit something hard with the deck, or it can just happen without reason... I hit a snowbank hard with my snowblower attachment, but I didn't even realize it until afterwards because it kept running fine. Supposedly, even after the strain to the engine, it won't always stall out. It will keep running (but maybe rougher) until you shut it off. Then when you go to start it again, you will have no luck because all the timing is out of whack. It cost me $80 to have a repair company fix it. I think the part was only $5.

My mower will start but not run. Oil and gas is leaking from exhuast and filter. What could be wrong?

if the filter is a sponge filter then it's suppose to have oil in it(helps trap dirt) and if your getting gas out of the muffler then the engine is flooding when you try to start it..good luck
