Laptop Keyboard Not Functioning

I have a Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop. The keyboard has stopped working completely as if it is either not connected at all or the driver became corrupt. I am able to use a keyboard through the USB port. Do I replace the keyboard or is there other solutions I should try first?

Re: Laptop Keyboard Not Functioning

Try to unplug and plug back in the keyboard connector ribbon onto the motherboard. Consult the laptop manual if that voids your warranty or not before trying, also look at the documentation on how to dissemble your laptop, it shouldn't be too hard. here's the instructions on how to do it

you might need some tools, but good luck and be careful

Laptop key repeats or doesn't work at all

what you can try to do is to test an external monitor. If it works fine, try to check for any stuck key on the keyboard and any foreign objects. If all is well, you can request a replacement keyboard from dell if your system is still within warranty.

Inspiron 2650 Laptop keyboard is locked.

If the keyboard is locked ALL the time, try unpluging the power supply, remove the battery, then push and hold the power button and any key on the keyboard for at least 30 seconds. then reinstall the battery, plug the pwoer cord back in and reboot it.

I had the same problem and that is what the DELL techs had me do. I had the problemm frequently for a while and then it just quit recurring. I haven't had the problem for a long time now.

I hope this helps.

My dell inspiron 2650 it seems as if the laptop keyboard has locked up. Wont type at all or let me in the computer with a password at all. help

It sounds as if your keyboard might not be connected any longer. This might be the result of a sudden jarring motion to the laptop, or a drop.

Use the above illustration to lift out the keyboard and make sure the Keyboard flex cable is attached to the connector (scroll down at the site listed above to see illustrations of the cable and connector).

The same link shows how to connect the flex cable, if it is disconnected.

Hope this helps.

Keyboard want work

The keyboard is probably broken or the cable is loose (unlikely) from the motherboard. Does the keyboard work at all? at any point?

Try a external keyboard, usb for example and see if that works.

Try this:

Shut down, unplug the AC adaptor, removed the battery, and hold the power button for up to 1 minute to discharge.

Make sure there are no stuck keys.

Keyboard space bar

only two possibilities, first is the rocker springs at each end or the bar are causingit to not make contact. or the bubble switches under the keyboard. I had a similar problem on an inspiron 6400 and I had to VERY CAREFULLY remove the keyboard, then the button to reach the bubble switch which had lost the plastic bushing that covered the shorting contact, good luck given the insane price that dell wanted for a new keyboard fixing it myself was the option.
