You have to tweak the firewall settings and have the ports open for ARES to run, otherwise it thinks someone is trying to crack into your PC and shuts it down.

Check with the ares documentation to see what ports need to be free.

    Negative, partner...

The internet does not need to be shut down. Just ARES while you tweak the firewall settings within the router.

Ares starts up with your PC, if you want to prevent that from happening and only start ARES when you want to:
    1) Click on START
    2) Click on RUN
    3) type "msconfig"
    4) Click on the Startup tab on msconfig
    5) uncheck the ARES startup program
    6) Reboot.

When your PC reboots, use the following instructions to deal with the port in your D-LINK firewall.

    Hope That Helps!

How can i make my computer run faster

do you use P2P (Peer to Peer) file sharing programs? If so then try turning the file sharing program off, as file sharing programs use up alot of bandwidth some broadband providers limit the speed you can use the internet if you are using file sharing programs.
If you turn off the file sharing program your broadband speed goes back to normal .
I faced the same problem ,after doing this i checked my speed from ScanMySpeed.com apparently my internet speed is faster than before.
If these doesn't apply ,there is a chance you may have a virus on your computer. A computer virus is likely to not just slow your broadband and Internet down but your computer too.

Tip

P2P and You?

P2P means Peer to Peer that act of sharing files with another person or group. With Peer to Peer you can find lots of files, driver files etc. When using Peer to Peer programs you can go to various Web sites to get these shared files.

Peer to Peer has become forums which carries lots of illegal software and downloads that are sold in today's market place. A movie, Music, Windows Software along with other software which must be purchased and serial number applied is being stripped from these Peer to Peer sites. This is what is called illegal copywriter infringements, not only will possibly get a person jailed or fined you can lose your Internet ISP.

The world is an open source for file sharing such programs which offer illegal material which can be download or shared from Peer to Peer programs is slowly becoming the thing of the past. You will notice many warning messages which will eventually close most of the P2P programs down in the future. It is sad that again we are going to be controlled by the government with new rules and policies which will stop the illegal files from being shared.

I tell you this information to let the public know when reading this web information, to be careful and just download files that are freeware only from these sites like driver files and free software. If you use P2P software be sure to have anti-virus running at all times. These sites are loaded with virus files and will infect your computer.

Belkin n150 download speeds are low

Low Download speed may be due to various conditions such as,
* If your Internet connection is shared with others on your LAN and they are using up all the available bandwidth. Tell them to knock it off
* Your ISP may be limiting your P2P traffic via some method of packet shaping. Call up the ISP and inquire if they do anything with P2P traffic.
* Check whether you haven set up your third party firewall or internet monitor software correctly.
* Your computer might have been infected with malicious software which altered the low level network settings of your operating system.
* You need to optimize your operating system for your current connection speed. First, close all P2P applications. Next run the DSLReports TweakTest. Once you have optimized it, then run a speed test at www.ScanMySpeed.Com This will give you a good idea what your maximum download and upload speeds are. If you're getting within 10% of your connection speed, that's the best you can get! If you are having trouble with your connection, and it relates to packet loss, excessive latency, or Internet or ISP congestion, running the Line Quality Test may help find the cause

Router supplied by AOL - DSL-2640R Firmware version V1.18 The router drops the Internet connection constantly.

Your router has small NAT table and it's easy to overflow, especially if P2P like torrent used. The only solution to prevent router to drop out connections is reset it periodically or install Router Comamander software (freeware version available). Router Commander prevents router from dropping connections using dynamic NAT table size control.

What is this routers IP address

In the next steps we will configure your router in such a way that the router allows Zultrax P2P to accept incoming connections. Your router is designed to serve multiple computers and of course multiple programs. Even if there is only one computer connected we will later on need two bits of information:
- The local IP of your computer
- The port used by Zultrax P2P
Zultrax P2P can help you to find those two bits of information. In the menu tools choose system info. This will display a page of information with various details about the program amonst which Local IP and port. Write those 2 down, you'll need them later.

It is the Local IP we are looking for, do not confuse the Local IP with the Public IP that is also shown on this system info page.

2.

Exit Zultrax P2P. Don't leave the program running while you are performing the actions below. Leaving the program running might give you false indiciations that your actions where not succesfull. Open a webbrowser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera). Enter the IP address of your router in the address bar of the browser and press enter. The IP address of your router is by default 192.168.2.1

4.

You see a box asking your username and password. By default the username for your Belkin F5D5230-4 router is admin and the password is blank
Enter your username and password and click the ok button to continue.

5.

  Click the link virtual server.
You find this link on the left of the page.

6.

You see a page titled Virtual Server. Enter the fields as follows:Private IPThe local IP address you wrote down earlierPrivate PortThe port number you wrote down earlierTypeTCPPublic PortAgain the port number you wrote down earlier

7.

  Click the button enter.
You find this button on the bottom of the page.

8.

zultrax_p2p.jpg   Your Belkin F5D5230-4 router is configured now. You forwarded a port for Zultrax P2P. You can start Zultrax P2P and you will see incoming connections coming up. This might be not immediatly after start up but within minutes you should see at least some incoming connections. The program will adapt itself to the new configuration.

In case you still don't have incoming connections, perhaps you also have firewall software installed that needs configuration. For that see the Firewalls/Routers page , the info about firewall software is somewhere at the bottom of that page.

Local Static IP

IMPORTANT : Depending on your exact configuration it is possible with the Belkin F5D5230-4 router that after a while you might be again without incoming connections. If this is the case, your router gives your computer a Dynamic Local IP Address. Often that is no problem as long as that Dynamic Local IP Address is always the same. As soon as you lose your incoming connections, you can assume it is not always the same.

In this case you can best define a Static Local IP Address for your router. We have a manual for this here.

After you defined a Static Local IP Address, best use the Settings in the Tools menu of Zultrax P2P and change the port number, to e.g. 6347 and afterwards repeat the steps as mentioned above.

We advice you to only do this in case you lost your initial incoming connections again. Otherwise, it is most likely not needed to start making changes in your computers settings.

Unable to access internet thru router

Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Connect to gnutella

Hi. Thanks for providing more information. I am very familiar with the bear-share network. Unfortunately, the Gnutella network dose not support the bear-share platform, and there are no updates, or patches to remedy this issue at this time. The support was dropped, shortly after the last bear-share version(5.2.5) was released. This will be the version you have at this moment. bear-share has, recently, dropped its support , as well, for the original bear-share platform, due to numerous lawsuits. As you may know already, the bear-share 6.0v, is totally redesigned for only music and short video downloads. this was part of the settlement that was reached during court proceedings.

Shortly after the bear-share 6.0v was released, the Network support for the earlier versions were severed, thus, rendering the earlier versions useless, and unable to connect to the Gnutella network.

I would advise to switch over to another P2P magnet down loader. There are many out there. I would recommend to try Shareaza 2.5.0.0, or Cabos. Both are excellent for P2P access, and they use very little system resources, as well.

  • NOTE_ I use Shareaza 2.5.0.0. I , recently, switched over to this software, due to the dismantling of the bear-share's original network. Shareaza is very fast, and it has a very sophisticated rating system , also.

Share a PPPoE connection without modem

I think the problem is that the modem is not giving enough ip addresses. Try configuring it. Some modems are also a router. This means that it has the capability to provide more ip address so that i can connect more pc.

How configure router for port used with p2p software?

First, know what your computer's IP address. This should be the computer that has the P2P software installed. (How to do this? Go here http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahse.html)

Then, open your Internet Explorer and type in on the address bar http://192.168.1.1and this should prompt you to login. Just type in admin for both the username and password.

Go to Advanced Setup > NAT > Virtual Servers

Click on Add then Make New One and use the name of your P2P software for the Server Name. Then your computer's IP address for the Server IP (which you have obtained when you did the first instruction).

Then for the rest of info required such as External & Internal Port Start and End and the Protocol, you may refer to your P2P software port configuration.

If you're not sure what it is, check the support website of your P2P software.

Hope this will help. Cheers x

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.
