Set up to play dvd movie on TV

I forgot how to set my RCA TV for playing a DVD movie on my new Toshiba DVD Player SD-4000. The fellow at the store told me, but I forgot.

I have the RCA cable up but the TV settings must not be right for taking the signal. Nothing comes through. It seems to be a setting issue for the TV. Someone said press Aux several times on the TV remote and it will find the new divice and override TV but that doesn't happen. Also, it has nothing to do with the old way for video, involving setting the channel right. It may have something to do with the menu for the TV which has a channel option of two settings but none of these seems to make a difference. So what is it?

Yes. And two months ago when a store person told me how to set it up these were connected right and I the dVD worked. I forgot what else I had to do to get the TV to take the signal.

I'm trying to get the settings right to play my Toshiba SD4000 dvd player through my RCA F27649 TV. I had it two months ago but forgot. The three color coded connection RCA cable is still connected the way it was when I knew how to set the TV to show the signal. I've tried using the remote and pressing aux. There must be some other setting problem addressed in the owners manuals I do not have.

I have an rca F27649 . . . I don't see any aux 1, 2, or three options and only one choice for channel on the menue . . video and s video. Neither makes a different. I don't have another TV to try, but I can see how a new RCA cable could go bad in two months . . . Nobody has a manual to check?

I tried the manual and found the instructions for using the remote useful, for example the who input button, but when I used it I got a promising screen instead of snow or black but it says "unusable signal."

There is an explanation about programing the remote to your input devise . . . vcr or whatever and a page of codes but none for a Toshiba DVD. There is a Tosheba code of 5026. But I'm remembering that at one point two months ago I DID have a way to set up for using the DVD signal . . . I just forgot.

I did check but I'll double check. You know, I didn't follow the auto-tuning page as you suggested because in the past that got me into auto tuning available TV or cable channels.

  • Dennis Renner
    Dennis Renner Dec 22, 2007

Bingo, dear otacon, that seems to have been the variable once the manual you linked me to got me to the who-input button and the signal unusable lable. Now before I sign off and accept, can you tell me how to switch bank and forth from the DVD and TV? I'm almost afraid to experiment, it feels so good to have the DVD signal.

  • Dennis Renner
    Dennis Renner Dec 22, 2007

But I didn't program anything with auto tuning. What I did was use who-input. Now maybe I should be able to simply toggle betgween TV and who-input. That is when I watch tv, I should have the TV button pushed. When I want to go to the DVD I should just go to who-input and try the options until the DVD player, which is already loaded, pops up the picture. Right?

  • Dennis Renner
    Dennis Renner Dec 22, 2007

No. That didn't work. So how do I go back to watching TV?

Maybe I just turn the dvd off; the signal stops blocking out the jTV signal and voila. I'll try that.

OK. When I hear from you about what seems to work and you confirm it, as simple as it is, I'll accept and we'll be done. Now all I have to do is use the who-input and toggle between three options. One is the DVD one is "front" (no signal), and the other is TV. That was the solution. As simple as that, not all of the other information that applied to other connections. The manual got me to it, not anything from any expert, but your initiative in finding a close manual got me to the who-input button for which you deserve credit.

Well first thing you should do to stop all this guessing ..Is try the dvd player on another tv if possible..if its working then problem is connections and or INPUT setting..if you have dvd in INPUT1 then set the tv to INPUT1

Hi,

You just need an RCA cable. Find the output from your dvd and connect to the input of your tv. The cable has three connectors in three colors...red/white/yellow. Res and white is audio and yellow is the video.

On each end of the cable are three connectors (red/white/yellow).

There should be nothing to set up except for switching to the channel to see the input from the dvd player. Usually youw need to switch to AUX like you said or AV (A/V). If your TV has more than one input there are more AUX/AV channels. For example if there are three inputs on your TV, then there would be AUX1, AUX2 and AUX 3.

    Which TV do you have?

  • Damen Wong
    Damen Wong Dec 22, 2007

Make sure that you are connecting to the proper connectors. On the DVD it's the ANALOGUE AUDIO OUT (L/R) which are the red/white connectors and the VIDEO OUT jack which is yellow. I once by mistake connected to the VIDEO OUT (Y/PB/PR) component video jacks by mistake. Make sure you connected to the proper jacks like on the DVD and make sure it's an input and not out put (I also made that mistake in the past).

If the cables are connected properly then all you need to do is to find the right AV or A/V or AUX channel. If all fails, then there is a chance that the cable has malfunctioned and a new one is required.

    Are you sure it's a F27649 and not a G27649?

  • Damen Wong
    Damen Wong Dec 22, 2007

If it's the G27649 here is the user manual (I couldn't find the F27649 manual)....check out page 36: auto tuning feature.

did you check that under the video input source menu that video input is selected and not s-video input?

  • Damen Wong
    Damen Wong Dec 22, 2007

After you programmed the DVD channel with the auto tuning...pressing the DVD button on your remote should take you to the DVD channel and to get out of that just key in another channel.

    Yup, you are right.

When in regular tv mode...press who-input to switch to dvd...then pressing who input again goes back to where you were before you switched to DVD.

We have a 23" Toshiba with a internal DVD player.

No,tv internal DVD player are not on sale by itself as a seperate unit, only can buy it from the tv corporations themselves and it not cheap and have to have experience to putting it in into the tv internal tv itself. The tv internal DVD player now, could be the laser eye data reader have problems reading mp3 and mp4 files on the DVD disc, which are video files. Now tries to play more than one DVD movies dic, tries like to play like 5 to 6 original DVD movies. One disc don't play tries another DVD disc.Tries this might forcing the laser eye reader to read DVD dics again and than might fix it to read video files again.Or just buy an external DVD player hook it up to the tv and play DVD disc on to the tv video modes.DVD players external devices are really cheap these day, like can buy new one for $40.

This is not a TV problem? The sd-p1600 is a portable DVD player. Are you trying to connect it to your TV? Or is you Portable DVD Player not playing?

Make sure you're tv is set on S-VIDEO, not AV1 or AV2 or VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 2, etc... there's most likely a setting on your tv to select your input to S-VIDEO.

First thing before a landfill is to go into the units menu and see if something in the audio got turned off if not then inspect the connectors on the back for breakage. Good Luck
