I have correctly installed the cd, the wireless card. the monitor icon is grey (disabled) not green. The hardware device has a exclaimation mark on it. How do I fix this?
It is often overlooked during a wireless card setup. You MUST have an ethernet connection on the PC. Connect the DSL modem internet line directly to the PC ethernet card. (NOT the wireless) "I am assuming you are attempting to hook up to a DSL line" This only takes a few seconds for the PC to refresh the DHCP.
The DHCP usually needs to be refreshed and often will fail if you just install the wireless card and software.
You may have to set the router into "bridge mode". Linksys is pretty easy to work with. You can also google to find your Router's IP address to change the settings. Be careful in there!
When using Windows, one can release/refresh a machine's DHCP address by
opening up a cmd-shell and entering "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig
/renew".
Alternative method: A fast and easy way to do this is to use the control panel. Change the
TCP/IP setting to configue Manually. Hit apply. Then change back to
configure Using DHCP and hit Apply again.
