MFC-440CN ink purge

How do I instigate a purge cycle on the MFC-440CN? My magenta ink capillary has bubbles - new cartridge and multiple cleaning cycles haven't helped.

Brother mfc-490cw maintenance mode

Is it a new Ink Cart? If not they have a bad tendency to dry out very quickly (even when not used) Some printers will use a combination of all their ink to create black when it runs low. Usually the first color to dry out is the Magenta. I would start by running a cleaning cycle 5-6 times and hope it can pull some ink through the ink head. Otherwise, go get a new cartridge and try it again. Ink Jets are a pain and the Carts are quite expensive, that why the machines price point is so low.

One other thought, you might try a Q-tip very lightly soaked in alcohol and gently rub it on the bottom of the Magenta Cartridge, it will remove any dried out in on the bottom of the cartridge and might make it work. But, much alcohol is a BAD thing and will cause a terrible mess with ink everywhere and could possible cause printer problems.

Good Luck.

Brother MFC-440CN printer will not see new cartridge

Your print-heads, which take the ink, and spray it onto the paper, have become "clogged". Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle" to try to unclog those jets.

Brother MFC 5840 won't print red. ink is full. printer head clean

If the regular cleaning does not work, you can try the power purge. Perform it by doing the following:
  • Press Menu, 2, 8, 6, 4 quickly (within about 1-2 seconds from the menu-press, all five buttons should been placed, in order).
  • The display and some buttons should start flashing, and it should say "Maintenance".
  • Press 7, 6.
  • It should say "CLEANING ALL", press right arrow key until you get "CLEANING MAGENTA" or similar.
  • Press 3, it should now change to POWER_P or P_PURGE. Press Mono/Black Start.
  • The display should say "Cleaning", when it's done, it will say Maintenance again.
  • Press 99 and you will leave Maintenance mode, you can now try and see if magenta works again.
If it doesn't work, you'd probably need chemicals to clean the ink tubes. But, this power purge should work.

MFC 210c problem with Magenta ink

I had a similar problem with my black ink. The printer had indicated that it was out of black ink. I didn't have one on hand, so, for more than a week I couldn't print anything, because if you are out of any one of the four ink cartridges, it won't print at all. That delay in replacing the black ink cartridge apparently was enough time for the printhead to dry out. Big Mistake! I contacted Brother's Tech Support and they suggested I run the cleaning cycle and try to print a test page. Still nothing printed. They had me run another cleaning cycle, and another, and another. Finally, after the fourth cleaning cycle, something started to show up on the paper. They had me clean it two more times, six in all, and it was back to normal. From now on, if it says one of the ink cartridges is empty, I change it yesterday. The major disadvantage of all of this, other than not being able to print for awhile, is that this procedure used up about 1/2 of a brand new black ink cartridge.

No magenta

do you use generic ink? If yes, use an original brother ink cart! Because of the additives within the brother ink, cleaning substances will keep the ph clean.

Brother Printer Cannot Print in Black

This could be because of several probs: 1. The ink cart is not original and wont let the ink flow, because the valve is not open. 2. There might be air bubbles within the capillaries. 3. The ink is not genuine ink and has pigments in it. Solution: see here, too: Insert another ink cart. Use, if possible, the genuine ink cart from brother. Do the cleaning cycle twice. This will extract the air bubbles out of the caps after the second time. If you dont have any success the printhead is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore!
