Canon 40D camera shuts off after trying to take pictures...

My Canon 40D camera shuts off every time i click on the shutter trying to take a photo. The only way to get it back on again is to removed the battery pack and put it in again... could this be a shutter issue or something else wrong with my camera?...

Try doing a reset in the camera tools somewhere, this fixed a similar problem I had.

Try a new set of batteries the snap of the shutter may be just enough to load down a weak battery array warranty is warranty and they have the rest of the world that still may buy theor stuff and all thecompanies are the same. Hey that is giving the business, Silent protest and it is silent. No matter how loud you are yelling grab their purse strings when you can they are connected to their unit between their toes. Yea there large toes.

The CCD is dead or the lens shutter doesn't open. You have to contact your local Canon service center.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Canon 40d-pressing the shutter seems to short out the camera.

I recommend that you remove both batteries for ten minutes to get a full reset. you spoke of the main battery. When you open the battery compartment, look at the lower right toward the camera with the LCD facing you.
It is a little hard to see, but will say CR2016 3V. Stick your fingernail under the lip and just pull it out.
As I said I left both batteries out for about 10 minutes.
You will have to re-set the date and time after your done.

Regardless of lenses, and batteries, cf cards, flash and exposure settings, when the fire button is pressed there is a small "click" and the camera freezes-no picture none of the exposure settings...

A few suggestions: The mirror lock up function has been activated. The sensor cleaning mode has been activated, doing this the camera as soon as you trip the shutter the mirror will come up and all other functions of the camera are inoperable. the mirror will stay in that position until it runs out of battery or you turn it off. The part you said about having to removing the battery doesn't make scents for this function though. Sensor cleaning is in the Custom Functions.
I know you said regardless of lenses and batteries how long do you wait before shutting the camera off and removing the battery? I know that's a question and we aren't suppose to answer a question with a question but the reason I'm asking is that the Canon 40D has a long 30 second shutter speed and a "bulb" setting. It is possible that the camera has been set to "AV" and the shutter is timing out, OR it's been turned to BULB and that mirror will stay there until the camera battery is dead before it drops. Couple things to check out before the next thing I'd think about is the amount of shutter actuation. The Canon 40D has a shutter good for 100,000 clicks/actuation. Sounds like a lot but if you are doing time laps or extended video it's very possible to blow the shutter out of these.

I have a Canon 40D. When I press the shutter button, it has about a 5 second delay before taking the photo, on all modes. Help!!

You may have set the self timer, which is ordinarily used when you want to get into the picture yourself.

Canon 40D LCD Wont come on buSY flashes in view finder

Okay, this is simple. Your camera can take several pictures at one time in a burst. However when you release the shutter button your processor takes a second to actually SAVE the pictures to the card in the camera. One thing than has helped me in my wedding photography business is to buy the fastest speed cards I can find. It significantly reduced my "busy" time.

Firing "lag time" response

Hi poseguerai,
Try this:
I had the same issue and even if it sounds crazy giving a massage to the shutter button all around in circles helped and when you switch on the camera has no shutter lag again.
I hope it works as it did for me.
