Question about Edirol UA-25 External Sound System

Audio Inputs suddenly producing buzz/broken

Hallo!

I've been using my UA-25 for a year or two for recording yet all of a sudden (mid way through recording an acoustic guitar via a dynamic mic/XLR) input 1 no longer seems to work. All it does now is produce a high pitched shriek regardless of what i plug into it (numerous XLR and mic combos, guitars and jacks, etc.).

If I tap the mic hard enough i do still get a signal but it comes out like a bit-crushed mess. Input 2 started picking up jamaican radio for a while and now also is just whining and buzzing, leaving me with two seemingly busted audio inputs...

Audio playback and MIDI still works just fine, though....

So, is it completely busted or is there something I can do to fix it? (way out of warranty here, btw)

many thanks!

One has been fixed, but didn't last for long, it is dead again. I was browsing the net to see if It is a common issue, and it definitely seemd to be :(

The UA 25 needs a GOOD quality USB cable, the thicker the better. Cable loss means that by the time the 5V power supply from the computer reaches your Edirol, the voltage has dropped to about 4V, which then has to be boosted back up to 5 Volts and inverted to -5V.

Cheap cables will hamper performance or prevent it working at all ( I lost 2 hours once with this problme ) . Also avoid using the FRONT USB connectors on PCs, use the connectors that plug direct into the MOBO on the rear of the chasis.

Good luck

You'll need those big round things arround the cable:

Can get signal from UA-25 to computer... but no audio from computer to UA-25?

Here is one solution uninstall the default driver or roll back driver. Restart your computer. When you get into windows wait for everything to load and then plug in your audio device. If you have it plugged in when windows starts then it will install a driver. In automatic updates you can select to notify of updates, but lets you install the ones you want.

Thanks for using Fixya

I just bought an American legacy Model AL100. It had no amp. How do I know what amp to buy?

OK- First, since it's an acoustic, you don't have to buy an amplifier- that's the nice thing about an acoustic guitar. If you need an amp, you'll need to decide why- for home use? To perform? To record?

For home use, find a pawnshop, and look for a small practice acoustic amp- Fender sells their Acoustasonic amp for about $100.00 new, so a pawnshop should have one for less. If you're performing, get a better guitar. Then, take a look at either Behringer or Marshall- they produce acoustic amplifiers anywhere from $230.00 to $400.00- these you'll want to buy new, and get the extended warranty. Good strumming, and good luck!

I am going insane trying to figure out why my vocals are recording so inconsistently - volume all over the place. It isn't obvious until I take the wave file to my engineer who's recording my CD. ...

hmm, it could be something simple such as a faulty cable from mic to pc, it could be a faulty input if you are using a mixer, could be a faulty mic, it could even be a piece of software running in the background that is conflicting with sonar and causing this problem. This should be an easy problem for your "engineer" to sort out. as seeing it makes it 100 times easier to fault find. Thats part of being an engineer!

When plugged into my churches pa system through a direct box the volume gets really loud then really quite and then sometimes normal. I'm using a lithium battery

Talk to your sound man... It is possible he has a compressor on the line. A compressor adjusts the volume dynamically and delays tweeking and releasing as a setting. Your guitar should NOT run through a compressor.

Microphone gives a really boomy distorted sounds on certain chords with an acoustic guitar

Hi Nic

Thats exactly how you do it:) Some times it doesnt matter what you do, you will get strange resonances. Careful EQ is the best way to tone it down. Some guitars will present boominess on certain notes, thats just the way they are. Acoustics rely on this boominess to some degree. Good luck and happy recording. :) Happy to talk more to you about it.
