Try the main Realtec '97 driver.

If you installed a 64bit Operating System later, that could be the issue.
Search for "AC '97 64 bit driver" if so.

Good Luck!

Try going to the manufacturers website and downloading the latest audio drivers for your PC and installing them. Check the device manager and look for anything showing up as a ! That's a good sign that's something is working incorrectly or doesn't have a driver installed.

My laptop isn't playing music. and doesn't have any kind of sound except through headphones. what may be the problem?

For the future, please provide your operating system (more specific the better), and the manufacture and model of your laptop. Solutions very from OSX to Linux to Windows and the more specific, the more success you will yield.

At any rate, if you are using Windows (Vista, 7 and XP), I may have a solution. RIGHT-click on the volume control button on your task bar (bottom right hand corner) and click "playback devices". Make sure the icon that reads "speakers" is enabled or "working" (to enable, just left-click twice).

If this doesn't solve your volume issues, you may need to re-install your audio driver from your manufacture website. The drivers section is normally under the "support" section of their website, but may also be under "downloads". Since I don't know what the manufacture is, I can't say for sure the address nor location. Download the audio driver(s) according to the Model and Operating System you are running currently. After installing, reboot (if needed). If you have a hard time finding the correct driver, respond with your manufacture and model number and operating system and I will gladly help you to the best of my ability.

If you successfully install the driver, and the problem persists still, you may have a problem with the hardware (speakers) themselves and may require a hardware replacement. Doing this yourself will most likely void your warranty, so do at your own discretion!

I hope this was helpful and straight to the point and wasn't too vague nor complicated. I would highly recommend a second opinion before replacing any hardware, seeing as the problem may not lie with the speakers themselves. The first two solutions I posted are 100% free, safe and reversible, so I hope those did the trick!

No audio driver for windows xp sp3

Install the Drivers that came with the Motherboard or the computer.

You can visit the website of the mother board manufacturer and download the required Audio drivers for the computer.

Please create a Restore point(to safely restore the computer back to default settings if it doesn't work) before installing those drivers.

Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore - click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions.

No sound

Your operating system could be missing the audio drivers.
Try going to the manufacturer website of your desktop, find your model of desktop, select your operating system (i.e, Windows XP/Vista,7), and download the audio driver.
Install the drivers and reboot the desktop. Also, make sure you go into your control panel and check that your sound isn't muted or that you have the proper output selected.

Sir i have installed windows 7 on my comp, but the

There should be a subfolder called "Drivers" or "Audio\Drivers" or "Drivers\Audio". Find an installer for your specific OS/Processor. But you will have better luck if you can get the model number of your motherboard and search on Google for the drivers. Usually motherboard manufacturers have all the drivers on the CD available online for free download. They will also be the latest drivers available, especially new ones for Windows 7.
