Question about ATI RADEON 7500 (64 MB) PCI Graphic Card

2 Answers

Too many drivers installed, which ones to keep, which ones to uninstall?

Oh, i hope ya'll are for real! :D my mainboard is via s3 pro savage, and added ati radeon 7500. new system is OS XP, 512 MB ram. both monitors on this pc work, both refresh rates of 60. i uninstalled the catalyst. my game is Sims2, i meet all requirements, but something is wrong with the graphics...and it is something that happened after i dled and installed shockwave, flash, and windows script 5.7. i (think i) uninstalled shockwave and flash, but still graphics are messed up, giving me a black screen and crash to desktop. game was perfect until i installed those 3. now i have many drivers installed for ati radeon 7500. also, now refresh rate in game is grayed out, where before it showed 60 refresh rate. display properties on desktop seem to be correct, showing refresh rate of 60. thank you in advance, and i have been working on this since thanksgiving. :(

    I uninstalled
    The Sims 2 and all EP's;
    scripten (windows script editor 5.7);
    drivers for ATI.

    I reinstalled
    ATI drivers (including Catalyst);
The Sims 2 (just the base game, no EP's).

I played The Sims 2 for about 20 minutes. I set the graphics to the highest in the game settings and all is well. I also have again the options in the game for different refresh rates. Mine is set to the recommeded 60 hertz.

It seems that either Windows Script Editor, Shockwave, or Flash messes up my graphics settings. I have many, many contacts on Yahoo Instant Messenger, and Yahoo advised me I needed to download and install those items to be able to use Messenger correctly. My yahoo email is my primary email account, and I like the way yahoo notifies me of mail, subscriptions, and messages. Should I go with MSN messenger?

THANK YOU, stejeda777, for trying to help. MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE, AND GOD BLESS YOU! :d

and now i crashed again. i installed all my EPs and played the game for 15 min with lowest graphics settings in game, then switched to highest settings in game, like i used to play before getting i crashed. (sigh)

    Merry Christmas, stejeda!
the thing is, when this pc was brought back to me a week ago with xp put on it, i loaded the Sims and 4 ep's, and it played fine...i played for an hour with the high graphics settings in the game.

then i signed in to my yahoo messenger account and dled those 3 items that i needed because when i would type text into the messenger box, it would not appear when i hit enter or send. same with others typing, it turned white and i could not see it.

so then messenger was working, and then graphics messed up in the game.

my mainboard is s3 pro savage via chipset.
Under display adapter, it says i have 2
    S3 ProGraphics DDR
    Radeon 7500

Since getting my pc back I have not messed with ANY s3 settings. I sent my mainboard and ATI cds along with my pc, and since the game worked right after i got it back, i cant imagine it is the s3.

It's sad to spend entire days searching for the solution, and even sadder to read how messed up the graphics card makers are, when it comes to lack of acknowledging their products have problems. I tell ya, if I were not a Christian, this problem would really have thrown me for a loop. This is Christmas morning, after all! :D

Oh, on directX, the 3d hardware acceleration is grayed out. the sims2 do not require it, and i am not sure i ever had it. i do know it has been grayed out when i got the pc back.

((((((stej))))))))) it's ok. actually, i only now realized you commented that day again.

I want to try something, but am afraid to without knowing for sure what will happen if i do...i have 2 display adapters showing up in display properties - ati radeon on pci slot 1, and s3 prosavage on pci slot 1.
now remember, my s3 is on my motherboard, integrated graphics.
so if i disable the s3 display adapter, maybe them sharing is what is causing my trouble, and if i disable the s3 that might work...but i am afraid i will not be able to see any screen on any monitor then if i do that.

i am thinking i can disable it this way:
    right click desktop
then select monitor 2, the one the s3 display adapter is on, and disable it.

also, i looked inside my tower and noticed the port(?) where i plug my main monitor into the ati place, was very, very loose. i tightened it real good. i haven't checked the graphics since tightening it.

i must share something with you: i am very, very poor and am on disibility. (but i am very, very happy! :D) my internet is my one luxury, and i get a good deal on that. even though all my needs are met almost every month, i never have extra money to spend. so i cant just buy something. the guy from church who put xp on this pc for me did it out of the goodness of his heart.
LOL, i have studied so much about computers these past few weeks, i feel if i had all the parts, i could build one myself! (and that would be fun!)

I double checked while i was inside my tower, and although there are available agp slots, mine is indeed in pci slot 1.

your comments on the sims2 requirements...this same ati card was wonderful, the game was played for hours on end in highest graphic settings in game, and could be played like that day after day. so i really don't understand how come i cant get that again, if i have the same games and the same cards. (i build sims houses and churches for others and so sometimes am building in the game all morning long.) no slowness at all.

Thank you again for continuing to try and help me! :D - Petunia Mae

1. uninstall or disable windows scripting
2. uninstall cataylst and install the oldest version possible from their site or from your box
3. reinstall the oldest or original via s3 pro savage driver

use a utility like advanced uninstaller pro if its hard to unsintall ur drivers

Msn messenger is very good, i would go with that, also i believe you may be able to forward all your emails from your yahoo account to MSN hotmail. It has a lot of features yahoo has. But i would try a few more things:

    1. try an older version of Microsoft Script Editor (5.6)

In my experience getting the latest updates when things are working okay usually causes more problems. I say only update when something is broken. Like the saying goes, if it aint broke don't fix it.

most likely the savage is causing problems i had a savage card before and XP barely supported it. S3 video cards are not really known for their driver support. I had a savage2000 viper , in only worked in windows 98, trust me there was no good drivers for XP for games. XP had no support for any 3d accelleration for my savage 2000. Only the 98 drivers had good opengl and directx support.

S3 has one of the worst driver support ive ever seen, especially for 3d applications. Try different s3 drivers, one from the manufacturer and ones from Windows XP and see what makes a difference. What model is it?

Sims2 requires hardware transform and lighting, many older s3 card don't have this. Let me know how the game works on your s3 graphics device alone.

I don't think 20 minutes running the game is enough to assume that everything was running fine in XP as you were playing your games. You were definitely going to run into problems with your S3 DDR onboard graphics chipset no matter what. This was not at all due to any installations of software that you made.

The main problem is that sims2 is a recent 3d graphics game. The game company EA recommends that you play the game using ATI or NVIDIA dedicated graphics cards only. In fact the game only supports the following brands and models.

    • ATI RadeonTM series (7000 or better)

      • Radeon 7000/VE series (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
      • 7200, 7500
      • 8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
      • 9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
      • X300, X600, X800

    • Nvidia QuadroTM series

      • Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

    • Nvidia Geforce series (GeForce2 and better)

      • GeForce2
      • GeForce3, 3 Ti
      • GeForce4, 4Ti, MX 420, 440
      • GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
      • GeForce 6600, 6800

    • Intel Extreme Graphics (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)

      • 82845, 82865, 82915

Your S3 integrated graphics is not on the list therefore it is not supported. There's a couple reasons why, integrated graphics are not meant for running recent 3d games and, S3 is not good for any 3d graphics whatsoever. S3 a dismal track record, and they sell very cheap devices. S3 makes horrible drivers, and even worse hardware. Im sorry but i have to advise you to stay away from any that S3 does. By the way i also recommend that you disable the onboard graphics in your bios.

The solution would be to purchase another ATI or NVIDIA dedicate graphics card and disable the onboard graphics. I guarantee this will work for you.

    Have a happy new year.

Im sorry about the tone in the last writing, but all my hate and frustration is directed towards s3 only and not to you. I hope s3 goes bankrupt. Companies and cooporations are so damn dishonest, they advertise their product is good and companies like s3 always let you down, they never support their drivers and always have huge defects and bugs. ATI nowadays also has had very bad drivers for my x850 for vista. like i said before, try getting older archived catalyst drivers from their website, it helped me.

Also try your best to rid yourself of that lousy s3 card by disabling it from the bios and get an nvidia or ati card.

Sure you don't have to buy anything, im a student and im poor as well thats why i don't do video games they cost so much $$$ to keep up to date. Additionally, to disable your onboard graphics you have to do it from the bios menu not in windows.

Its kind of complicated if you haven't done it before but i would look for instructions in google or your motherboards manufacturer it seems like you know a lot already though.

Unfortunately its come down to wether you want the game to work or not, you definitely wont be able to use two screens anymore but at least it wont crash. If you only want to play sims2 on a second display badly and you've got a couple of bucks, a new card that's compatible should cost you very little if you aim for low end cards.

    Geforce 2 - 20$

    Radeon 7000- 20$

I actually have some spare video cards but i live in Canada so shipping and handling is the price of the card alone. Good luck i hope you find a cheap low end video card.

It means the driver for your video card is not allowing the system to enter standby (power save mode). This is an information message and is not a big error unless you really need to be in standby.

You have 2 possible solutions:

1) Scour the internet looking for and updated driver. These may work:

2) Disable system standby in windows: In control pane, select power options, then unselect the option for system standby.
