When I press on for example, a way home, it shows me the right place I am, but it does not show me the new roads/highways to get there, only the old ones.

your map software may need to be updated but beware as the map software may be a few years out of sync with the current area . My area has 3 new roads and a extension that are 2 yrs old and my Nuvi that i bought 3 months ago and 4 updates later still do not show these roads yet.
