Hello Sir,
In order to remove the Cd player, you need to follow the mentioned steps carefully.

Step1 Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Turn the retaining nut on the cable clamp counterclockwise to loosen the clamp until it can be pulled off the negative terminal.

Step 2 Wedge the screwdriver under both console panels in the center of the dash and pry them off. There are several retaining clips holding these in place.

Step 3 Remove the two screws holding the shifter panel in place.

Step 4 Pull the back of the shifter panel up, while pushing the front of the shifter panel down. It will come partially loose, but you will not be able to remove it due to the shifter being in the way.

Step 5 Remove the screws that are now exposed just below the traction control panel.

Step 6 Disconnect the wires attached to the panel.

Step 7 Pry the trim up from around the heating and air conditioning controls as well as the radio. If your Malibu is equipped with wood trim, remove this.

Step 8 Remove the screws holding the heating and air conditioning controls and the stereo in place.

Step 9 Pull the stereo out of the dash and remove the electrical connector in the back of the stereo.

How to wire up to a 2002 chevy malibu

My 2002 Chevrolet Malibu doesn have wiring harness
You'll be glad to know we do offer an OEM wiring interface from Metra for the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. If the Chevy Malibu came equipped with Onstar, then here is the adapter you will need to replace the factory radio. If the Malibu did not come equipped with Onstar, then you will need this adapter instead. I hope that helps. Andy

The above link has the info on stereo adapters. They are expensive, but these adapters retain the original functions of the system.

Will i need a factory cd player for my 2004 malibu maxx

Just install a Pioneer with the correct harness. You will be money ahead if you let a reputable car audio shop do it. (warranty) The Delco unit is junk.

My 1997 chevy malibu's factory radio/cd player says error whenever I try to play a cd,what can I do about this and how can I fix it?

is the CD one that you made yourself or is it store bought? Have you tried other CD's?

If the error message is displayed when other CD'd are tried as well than there is a problem with the CD player. You can try using a CD player cleaning kit. Its possible that the laser head is dirty.

There are two other options if cleaning does not work.
1. you can pull the stereo and send it in for repair or replace it.

2. you can install an aftermarket stereo (usually cheaper)
