Question about SanDisk 2GB microSD Memory Card

1 Answer

I have a 2gb micro sd memory card in my phone. I plugged it in with an usb adapter to a computer to upload some photos from it when I noticed a virus on it. I deleted the virus, and apparently with it some (vital?) files (at least autorun.exe). Now when I plug in the card, the computer doesn't find it at all. What to do? All the pictures still show up when I put the card back in my phone.

On some SD cards there is a program you can run. This will allow the PC to see the SD card files. The autorun.exe file may have been that file or it pointed to another directory. Typically you only need a smart card reader to see the files. if the PC can not access any of the data as stated. Plus a virus.... the data may well be corrupted.

However if corruption by a virus has occurred this utility may allow you to recover those images.

Supposed to be free.

Please be careful if you use this file.
Scan it for viri just like you did with the SD Micro card.
I have not used this program but welcome any reports of success.
Who knows, it may very well help others and myself in the future.

Good luck!

Format micro SD card

Hi, The quickest way would be to insert micro SD card into an SD adapter or plug it into some card reader, then stick it into the computer's usb port. Proceed to "My Computer" right click onto memory card and select "Format".

I hope this helps.

I have a new HP computer with Windows 7. Someone gave me a PNY 2GB memory drive with photos I would like to download. Where do I put the memory drive?

that all depends on the model of your laptop, most current laptops have a slot for a standard sd card, if this is the case you will need a micro sd adapter.

if you dont have a port for an sd card you have 2 options, first you can buy a usb memory card reader (making sure it takes micro sd cards before you purchase) or, most mobile phones take the micro sd card so you can put it in your phone and either plug it into your laptop using a usb cable and try getting them that way, or if you can view the photos on your phone, bluetooth/email them across.

Hello, it depends how old your equipment is as SD cards and SDHC are not necessarily compatible, so if your pc and printer were designed in pre-SDHC days, then you probably wont get any success trying to reading your card.
SD cards only support 2gb max, and in order to support larger capacity for the same style card, the mapping of SDHC cards is totally different, so SD-supported equipment can't 'understand' the new mapping circuitry.
There's some interesting reading in Wikipedia which might clarify things better than my explanation.
Of course, this might not be the solution, but it's worth trying out an SD card if you have one, but I've noticed that SDHC cards are being advertised as SD cards; the only clue that they're actually SDHC is in the capacity, ie, >2gb.

most mini sd cards come with a full-sized sd card adapter that the mini slips into. You can then slip that in your computer if you have an sd slot or sd reader.
You can also buy very inexpensively, a usb port mini sd reader that you can plug directly into your usb port on your computer. Then after you'v dragged and dropped the files, you can put the mini sd back in your phone.
