Did you check the engine for spark? If so, you either had spark or you didn't. If you did have spark then you may have a valve adjustment problem being that it has a Honda motor on it that bleeds of your compression hence, no start. If you didn't get any spark on the plug, then check out the unit to see if it has a dead man system built in it and i'm guessing it does. If this unit has this system then in all likely hood it also has a cable that runs down the handle towards the motor. If this cable has an adjustment on it, that may be where your problem lies. If it doesn't then it does have a braking system on it. That could be anything from a flywheel brake band to a clip that gets nicked by a ground when the dead man system is let go. You might want to have a look at a shut down wire and make sure it's not grounded anywhere and you may have to remove the pull cord casing to find that out.

Hope this helps and good luck.

My yard machines by mtd mower model number 11a-b13l029 won't start?

Fuel must be less that 30 days old! Air filter OK? oil level OK? Is the shut off cable streteched, If it is then is makes contact and will not allow the engine to start.

Hi dherrin...

Look under the mower housing on the motor and locate a square plug, or maybe a socket screw to remove.
This will be the oil drain.

I have a Yardman 22" push mower Model 11A-084E029 B&S 158 cc engine I bought new. It starts and rungs great the first time I use it. When I go to use it again in a couple of weeks it will not stay...

still your gas could be not good for a small engine like a push mower. check your local content of ethanol in you area. ethanol is very, very, very bad for small engines. ethanol(alcohol) over time creates moisture in the gas and moisture(water) dont burn. I say check you local gas station or go buy gas other place. look around for special gas like for fleet. empty all gas and remove carb. bowl and fill with new gas.

How do you drain the oil and gas out of this mower mtd 22' 4hp and how do you change the spark plug? do you need any special tools/thank you soooo much natalie

Drain plug for the oil should be under the deck next to the blade shaft. Usually a plug with a square head on the bottom of the motor. Loosen the fill plug and then remove the drain plug. Any time you go under there make sure you disconnect the spark plug wire so no spark can jump.
Gas is another thing. No fuel line as carb is part of the tank, so only way to empty is to .....
1) tilt the mower over and pour out the gas. Good time to change the oil and do it before you add the new oil.
2) unbolt the tank from the motor and remove tank carb and all a single unit. Then turn it over and dump the fuel. there are only 2 bolts holding it on so after you remover the air filter you can see them easily. Just remember how the throttle linkage hooks on.

11A-418A729 - straight gasoline or gas/oil mix

If it has an oil stick, it is sraight gas. No oil stick to check oil then, gas/oil mix needed.
