Toro 522xi electric clutch

I keep snapping the drive belt while mowing, is it the clutch or the engaging switch or something else.

Check all your spindles for abbrasions, out of balance, and double check the belt is on right and not on the wrong side of any guide bars around any of the spindles. Most times it's not obvious at first but look for unusual rub wear anywhere near where the belt is traveling.

Pull switch that engages blades doesn't do anything..

the switch or the relay is probably bad. maybe the clutch itself is bad. need to test to see what is bad. check the wires going to the connections and the fuse to be sure they are connected good.

My Husqvarna LGT 2554 deck hung up on high spot mowing. Turned off deck & mower pushed by hand. Engaged deck, started to mow, wound to stop. Belts fine. Pull up on knob to engage, you get nothing.

The engine runs but the blades do not engage? Make sure the wire connecting the electric clutch is still plugged in. If all is connected and the belt is really fine, there is a problem with either the electric clutch or PTO switch.

Clutch adjustment for engaging dec

You clutch is probably OK. This sounds like some binding in the mowing deck.

  1. Take off the deck.
  2. Clean the underside of the mowing deck.
  3. Remove the belt and be sure all the moving parts move freely. If something is bound, try to free it up with oil.
  4. Replace any bound up bearings. Bearing are a very high maintenance item on a mowing deck.
Good luck.

What causes fuse to blow every time I try to engage blades?

To engage the blades is it a knob to an electric switch that you pull?
If so does the wire from the switch activate a electric clutch?
Is the wire damaged and shorted to the frame, is the clutch shorted. If you provide the brand name and model number I might be able to find a schematic for your mower.

Looking for the location of the clutch safety switch on an older toro commercial 11-32

Anytime your engaging blades it pulls quite a bit of juice from the battery, so you need to be absolutely sure your battery is good.

Stalls When engaging the blade clutch

Check that the blade brake is disengaging. Slip belt off blade spindles and check that they spin freely. Check underside of deck for clogged grass, ropes, wire, etc.

I have a troy bilt 42 inch 17 hp lawn tractor. The problem is when I cut grass and i get in some thicker grass the blades turn off then I back out the blades restart. The engine never bogs down

One or more of your drive belts is in need of adjustment or replacement, maybe. Possibly, your electric (or manual) PTO clutch could also be adjusted. You do have the spring tensioner on the deck engaged, right? You say the engine doesn't bog when this happens so I am inclined to think "clutch" and/or "PTO belt" to the deck and/or the "deck tensioner" are the things to check.

The tensioner will be the easiest, it is a handle on the left side ON the deck. Has a BIG spring on it. Make sure it is engaged.

Is yours a Troy Bilt manufactured in Troy New York or is it another manufacturer (MTD?). Troy Bilt is actually out of business, having sold the Troy name to a variety of makers depending on the model line. I don't have the run down on who makes what any more (tillers, chippers, mowers, blowers, trimmers, etc.), but Troy Bilt of Troy, NY is no more. :-(

I have a 16 HP Troy with 42 inch deck driven through a electric clutch. I also have a "grass pump" on my deck. Important maintenance tips: Keep the bearings greased, keep the deck clean underneath. The belt on the deck should have the tensioner released when you are NOT mowing. Keep the blades sharp and in good repair. Mow with engine at full speed. When you get to areas of heavy growth, slow the tractor down (hydro drive) or reduce to a lower gear (gear drive). NEVER adjust speed using the "clutch" (hydro drive or gear drive). When you engage the blades (electric or manual) always have the engine just above idle, bring the engine speed up slowly to preserve the belts and reduce stress on all components.

I am sure this is the fix for your trouble. If there is anything else or if I missed the ball, please let me know and we will go further.

Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com
