Sounds like there is a magnetic field interfering with your compass. Something close to the compass is deflecting the needle, so look for the source close to the compass location.
To fix this, hold down the A button for 4 seconds. this allows you to recalibrate the home position of the second hand. My secondo hand was posting exactly 90 degrees west in compass mode, and this home position recalibration fixed it 100 percent.
It is defined as the position( imaginary line) on the earth that runs from the north pole to the south pole and the longitude is zero degrees. The international date line is on the opposite side (180 degrees)

When you read the instructions you need to look for the part where the "city" setting. Look for the one on the same longitude as yourself (not necessarily in Australia). You may need an atlas to check the longitude of the cities available.
I had the same issue. I found that if you re-calibrate the compass the same way you did the first time, then it will act properly. I've had to do this a couple of times and it works.
It depends which way you are looking at- West or East.
5th time zone on West is for: Greenland, Canada, USA, Bahamas, Jamaica, Columbia, Peru.
On East: Russia, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Maldives.
I just do not understand why you do need this. All radio controlled watches are receiving the signal from the place in country where watch is worn- in my case its Rugby in England.
Use your user manual to sort this out.
if your hands aren't straight when you use the compass try this to sync the hands.
1. Press and hold the middle button to enter T-Touch mode. 2. Press the centre area on the face twice to display 24hr/12hr 3. Press and hold the middle button to enter T-Touch mode untill screen says sync.The hands will face 1200.
4. Press either the upper (East) or lower (West) button to adjust the compass hands. They should both face 1200. 5. Press the middle button to get back to 'regular' compass mode. Note that your offset setting will still show in the digital area.
