my laptop stopped reading this device for some reason (it reads other devices just fine). When I plug it in, the computer reads it as My Computer\Actions Mtp Device 000001 and shows no files in it (even though there are mp3 files there). It also does not allow me to paste anything onto iclick, even though I was able to so so in the past. Will appreciate any help in this regard.

Try this solution to your problem.
Go to Device Manager To get to Device Manager you will: Right click on My Computer>Properties>click the Hardware Tab>Device Manager. After you are in Device Manager look for your MP3 player or Unit. Here you should see no "Yellow" exclamation points. If you do they they are telling you that you have a device conflict. If you currnetly have your unit plugged in, you may notice the "unknown device" which would be your Player or Unit. If you unit has an exclamation point by it, then you will need to click on it and delete it. After you remove all devices with conflicts then click on refresh and search again for your MP3 player/Device. The computer should install your device this time and solve your problem with connection of the MP3 player/Device. Please take time to rate me thumbs up.
this player seems to have a hardware issue mine has done the same thing sorry to say that you'll lose all your data on the device with this solution but it should get the mp3 player working again, while holding the volume up button connect the device and let the program do the recovery mode on the device and it should fix the error for a while i had this once fixed it and havent had it since,
I have that kind of Mp3 Player too... that happened to me, but the PC was able to read mine. However, the reason why the message: "Low Battery USB Disabled" appears, is that you still have remaining battery life, but will only last for less than an hour (indicated by low light and red empty battery sign) you have to make sure the Mp3 is completely discharged. (you'll be notified when you turn on the device while it says: "Low Battery") once that it is completely discharged, you can now plug in the USB cable with the device to the PC... if problem persists, check your PC.. can it read the device? Check if a notification balloon appears at the bottom right corner of the monitor screen. It should say, "Found New Hardware... Samsung YP-Z5F..." if it did not appear, try to INSTALL using the Installation CD given when you bought the product. Just insert the disk into the PC and continue on, then when it is already installed and ready for use, plug in the device! This may be a little hard, but this is the only way I know. Feel free to ask me! I am no technician but I know a lot on devices and fine mechanics. Good luck!
Most of the Mp3 players do have physical switch to write protect, if you can locate it try to switch off write protect option if not after connecting device check the drive is read only if thats the case anticking read only.
You need to check your MP3 Player on another PC. If it still have the problem then you must return it for a Firmware Update.
When any kind of USB Devices plugged and couldn't continue the launch (boot) step. Then you have to be sure that the MP3 Player (Or USB Device):
1) Has a corrupted component.
2) Needs Firmware update (Know as Device BIOS Update).
