Question about Standard (CRT) Televisions
A loop promotional piece is now running on the tv set and I am not able to interupt the run or turn off the set. It is an older set but has been doing fine until now. What, if anything, can be done to restore sanity?
SOURCE: Standard TV-Auto shut down
TV's have a circuit that monitors the high voltage and shuts down the set if it senses something amiss.
Figure on replacing the flyback transformer.
However, my experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Another option is to wholesale replace the main board from an outfit like PTS Electronics at ptscorp.com.
Hope ya fix it!

No vertical sync lock caused by bad caps on PIP module..
REMOVE module.....solder 22mf / 50v NP capacitors
on bottom of PC board ..VP connector pins 5 to 11 and 7 to 9.
Picture will be stable.....forfeit use of PIP box feature.........T.
