Question about Elna Sewing Machines

Open Question

Hello, I have an Elna 6000 sewing machine about 10 years old. It has no power and the problem is not the power chord. I turned it on, there was power and then it shut down. Any suggestions are welcome. The service center checked the power chord and advised it is fine. Kathy Beamish

SOURCE: Elna Carina Zig'Zag Stitch Issue

Over time, and especially when not used, there is a likelihood of dust and old oil forming a sort of glue, or clag....

Remove the needle for safety, then, when you have the setting on Zig zag, gently push the needle arm to the opposite side of the zig stitch.......release the needle arm, and if it springs back quickly, it is fine, if it moves slowly, or almost not at all, then the clag needs removing with application of few drops of methylated spirit to start, at the sort of piston affair that shifts needle arm L & R .....move the needle arm back & forth until it frees up, a drop of oil to finish.........if almost seized, may require leaving overnight after using a penetrating lubricant if it is really resistant....I have had them on the bench for 3 days with manual manipulation a few times each day before they finally come good.

Elna 6000 sewing machine, machine running very slowly and will not speed up when more pressure applied to foot peddle. More details below ?

This happened with my 50 year old Elna Supermatic. It ran a bit slow, so I oiled it and it ran again okay. But then it got slower, and I had to turn the wheel to get it to start and then it would run. But then even that didn't work. No go, period. I checked the foot pedal which had a bit of lint inside but no obvious problems. But the light worked so power was getting through to the machine.
I took it in for service, and the repair guy said that the brushes inside the electric motor (they supply power to the turning part called the armature) were worn out and no longer making contact. $11.00 for new ones, and a service/cleaning charge, and it's running at full power again.

Hello. My 30 year old Elna electronic SU doesn't stop after I release the air pedal, from time to time. I have to tap two or three times on the pedal or simply turn off the machine to make it stop. Then,...

Sounds like the air electronic bellows sensor bit inside the machine is faulting, it can be repaired if you can find an old school Elna technician. Mine would do this too, and I did the same as you, worth putting up with as I love my AE SU machine.
if you are technical yourself and you do want to see if you can repair it, I would suggest joining the Yahoo Group called Elna Heirlooms, the members are very good at sharing knowledge on repairing the Swiss made Elna machines and I'm sure Ive read a thread on this fault.

Where do you oil the Elna 6000 sewing machine?

From memory these don't have a lube point, you just need to remove the bobbin case and brush out underneath it regularly to remove any lint or threads. There may be oiling wicks internally that a technician takes care of though so it pays to take to a trained Elna technician regularly. With the introduction of computerised sewing machines there was less metal moving parts, nylon gears and I think these had a couple of electric servo motors which do the work, rather than the old style sewing machine chassis.

Elna 6000 sewing machine

Consult your owner's manual and oil ONLY as instructed. Be sure to use good quality sewing machine oil as recommended (NOT old oil from your grandmother's sewing basket, 3-in-1 oil, WD40, or cooking oil).

Need new foot control for Elna 6000

Have you tried Elna themselves firstly? Start with www.elna.com, choose your country to go to the local website, then go to "Contact Us" page and either email or ring the office in your country.

Or you can puchase this foot control from www.sewingpartsonline.com,
it looks like it is a seperate item to the power supply and plugs into the machine so whether you are in a country with 110V or 240V power shouldn't matter.

I have a suggestion that may sound a bit over the top, Singer is no longer an independent company, it seems that Elna has bought or merged with Singer. Elna has a machine called the Xquisit and it is the identical machine to the Singer XL 6000, I have given lessons on the Elna machine by using my Singer to show what to do. You might contact Elna and see if there is someone to help with your problem or contact several service centers to see if they have any dead Singers and therefore orphaned embroidery units. Just a suggestion.
