The gear stick on my 2004 saab is blocked. why?

Before you try to fix anything, try applying the foot brake really, really, really hard when you shift out of park. If that makes it better, take it to a mechanic for adjustment.

Stick is lock on park cant put on drive by pressing break wy

have friend bump car just a little to move it apply break put on parking break
start vehicle press brake take out of gear let off emergency brake
you park on hill so this is called shift lock always use the emergency parking break when on hill so you dont get shift lock

1991 Cadillac 409 engine won't shift out of Park

Lets start by checking your brake light switch.
Your car has a switch on the brake pedal that not only makes the brake lights come on, but also tells the transmission it can shift out of park.
This really may be 2 separate switches, but should be under the dashboard and both should "open" when you push the brake pedal down.
Take a good flashlight and look.
The switches are small, about the size of your thumb, and both should have 2 wires attached to them.

91 subaru loyale. My right front parking brake does not disengage. I have to do it by hand. Is there a spring or something that needs replacing?

there is an adjustable cable attached too the parking brake follow it find it adjust the cables till their of equal lengths or dont stick...mines under the change holder

My 1991 mazada is stuck in park and I cannot get into shift into any other gear. What do I do? I do not have a key feature on it to unlock the gear shift.

first check to see if you have brake lights, brake light switch might be bad , if you do have brake lights then brake interlock sensor is bad ,you can take center console out and disconnect the interlock cable from the gear shifter. or it may just need to be adjusted.

Why is my 1993 jeep grand cherokee slipping out of park? the car slips out of park on hills and rolls away.....even with the emergency brake on sometimes if the hill is really steep, the car will roll.

the transmission cable needs to be adjusted on the side of transmission

My car (a 1991 toyota sedan le) suddenly wont shift into gear out of park.if you push the button in front of the console it will change

check all fuses,if okay check to see if brake lights work, if they work then you may have a bad shift release soleniod or maybe its just dirty and sticking.

Stuck in low gear, key comes out. suspect something wrong in steering column

Could be your shift cable adjustment. In the engine compartment move the shift cable forward ( you can do this by hand) This will move the transmission out of low gear and into park. You will probably find you can now shift into the other gears without problem but if you go into low it will stick again. You might be able to adjust it or you might have to replace the cable.

If the car has a center console between the seats, and the e-brake lever is there, remove the console there should be a bolt to tighten or loosen. Loosen it with the lever DOWN, pull the cable as tight as it will go with your hand and a pair of pliers. Holding the cable in place tighten the bolt or nut that secures the cable. If this doesn't fix it, have your rear brakes inspected and/or adjusted.

I never had to adjust my emergency brakes cable on any of my cars. If the emergency brake is too loose or travels too much, either your brake shoes are worn down or you need to adjust the brake shoes by turning the adjuster inside the brake.
Make sure your brake shoes are not worn down before you adjust the emergency brake wires.
